Heard Taps while closing EDP

Since the gold change I realized I just couldn't hit the 30 swipes a month anymore since I get 4x on my daily coffee now.  I threw in the towel and will refund my $95 AF, within the 30 days.  Also, I have noticed in the past couple of months most or if not all my amex MR offers have been on charge cards.

I thought I would never close this card, then again I never thought they would change the PRG.   Moved 10k of the 29k to my Hilton card.

I don't think anyone expected such a huge upgrade on the PRG card.

Let's see if they actually show some love to the green as well in the future.

Life never stays still. Neither does credit product. You will need to reevaluate your available credit every so often. Sometimes you apply for a card one year and the next a new product blows it and a few others on your wish list out of the water. Was that HP a waste? Not really for that time but it sure feels like it. You will need to every so often be like Capitol One and say "What is in your wallet?"  and adjust accordingly.

Yep.  I have whittled down many after getting them, Venture, Discover, Prestige, SPG, Chase FU, Macy's amex and now EDP, while moving some CLs to other cards in the Citi, Amex and Chase family.

I'll continue to stay the course of MR, UR and AA reward ecosystem though.

Re: Heard Taps while closing EDP

I am kinda with you want to close my ED card down as business blue is 2x regardless so needless card only part is it is backdated to 1990 which makes me not want to close it, but at max revolvers with Amex currently and sitting on a card i simply don't use taking up a slot Smiley Sad.  Choices to take down my oldest account even if it reports for another 10 years or keep it and just let it remain in the SD as it hasnt been used in 6 plus months.  I am using my other Amex cards to tune of 2-3k a month though

That's why I didn't even PC to the ED card, completely useless.  Most of our none category spend is done online w/ either AA or UR shopping portals so we really don't lose that much value w/ being concerned with a non-category spend card.

Re: Heard Taps while closing EDP

I can understand the Taps. I tried to close my PRG (circa 2002) last year, but now glad I didn’t. My Blue (Also circa 2002) which is the same family as ED/EDP sits collecting dust because there’s absolutely no reason for me to use it. But I can’t bring myself to do it since all of my earlier cards have already fallen off of my credit reports.

Lol with that said I closed two accounts today a FNBO and one of my 5/3rd accounts as never like having to much credit anytime i am around 300k+ I get a bit freaked out as don't want to be denied by any lender for too much credit so I start to trim back and get rid of the cards with the lower limits and highest apr's and sub-par rewards.  It is a constant game for me to make my cards the best or suppose i would get bored and disappears, but have a few years left in me I suppose as I love the occasional bonus as well..

With that said yep can't bring myself to close the ED card as useless and taking up one of my 5 amex revolver slots, just not going to happen due to the 1990 backdate and oldest card on report.. I have taken it down from a 30k cl to a 5k cl where it will remain.. Doubt they will close it either for non-use as I have the platinum and SPG business and Delta Business with AFs, so sure they are happy collecting those and will leave my useless ED alone.. With that said i need another delta bonus on the business platinum so i need to find a spot meaning a revolver to give up but i can't so kinda f'ed as love the SPG business esp the spend, the Blue Business isn't going anywhere for obvious reasons have cash magnet on personal that is fairly new and of course the ED and a fairly new delta gold that i recently met spend on...  This sucks lol...

Maybe I can be one of the rare 6 card people?  Granted also have 70k exposure with amex and think I am pretty tapped out with them shrug

Re: Heard Taps while closing EDP

CC, you can have one of my 4 slots now.  I'll give them a call to transfer one to you, I wonder how the CSR would handle that one??????
