Re: Is AMEX losing their prestigous reputation for lowering their standards?

For many of us, having an AMEX in our wallet is a truly a satisfactory feeling of accomplishment. Since the arrival of the new charge product "Zync", it seems like AMEX has dramatically lowered their approval standards( mainly targeting younger individuals). For the most part, it's a good thing because people have the ability to join the AMEX family. In another sense, AMEX is somewhat ruining their reputation as a prestigous company. Based on my personal opinion, they are still one of the best rewards company out in the market; however, I don't carry that pride as a card holder like I once had.

This is discriminatory and insulting to younger individuals.

What exactly are you trying to clarify? Smiley Indifferent

Your attitude that your "status symbol" credit card is tarnished because they issue them to young adults is shallow at best.

Re: Is AMEX losing their prestigious reputation for lowering their standards?

Didn't you complain in another post that you were annoyed that Discover denied you due to being 20 years old and that you'd never do business with them again.  And that you were thrilled that Amex accepted you for Zync.

Yet now you're saying that the Amex reputation is being tarnished because they're focusing on issuing Zync cards to a younger crowd?  I'm assuming thats why you're now trying to product change out of Zync to a Gold card.

Can't have it both ways.   Why not just be content with getting in the door with Amex at 20 years old?

Re: Is AMEX losing their prestigious reputation for lowering their rewards standard?

It is perfectly fine to complain about American Express rewards not being the best.     Although, prestige and best deal rarely go together.

However, I don't find it acceptable to characterize young adults as a substantially lower standard.

Woody Allen..  Wouldn't want to be a member of a club that would have him.
