No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
If the rewards aren't doing it for you, drop the Zync and go for a traditional credit product that you could rack up points or cash quickly sans the annual fee.

TheCreditKid wrote:When AMEX created and introduced the Zync, their main purpose was to target young adults ( 20's). AMEX lowered their expectations, because they understood that most people in their 20's are either still in college or don't bring in much of an income.
However, they know that people in their 20's are still big spenders, but they refused to give the Zync some decent rewards.
Like I said, what can I expect if the annual fee is only $25. I should stop complaining but I can't!!
Now, what is it? Are they big spenders or not? I work with college students, and none of them are big spenders.
Also, where do you get that information about the Zync targeted at young adults from? If by "young adults" they mean young urban professionals, then that might explain the existence of the "Spa Package" or the "Vegas Pack" et al. I am not saying it is not true but Amex doesn't really advertise the Zync that way, do they?
I've never seen Amex state on their website that the Zync is specifically for young adults. In fact, many Zync holders are people with slightly tainted credit reports (who are probably older as not many 20 year olds have a seven year old bankruptcy on their reports that is scheduled to fall off any day, to state just a common example that I've read about here).
Let's just leave it what it is. The Zync card is from what I can tell, a card geared towards those who would like a foot into American Express for a possible future with them.
I think it was a great idea for Amex to do this, they get some people who are either young or don't want a large annual fee, or might have had some credit problems in the past to join and after a while they get to personally see their spending and payment habits and can then make more accurate decisions for approval on other cards that might have better rewards structures or benefits.
What anyone thinks about what Amex is doing with the Zync is irrelevant. Only Amex knows what they are truly doing with this card and who they are gearing it towards.
Everyone should just be happy to have credit cards period. They are a nice tool to maximize rewards and float balances for a few months if necessary (although not preferred by Amex obviously).
These are only opinions, and I hope I didn't offend anyone, just saying what I feel based on what this thread was earlier....
Can't describe in words... well I can but I don't want to get banned :-)

lol.
Has anyone actually applied and been denied for Gold or Platinum and then turned around and applied and was approved for Zync?
I think some of you are reading to hard into this and that the credit standards are so much lower for Zync... my friend got gold with a 642 TU... If Amex is going to issue you a charge card why would they give you zync but not platinum if you wanted, that's a difference of $425 in Amex' pocket... I don't think Amex would really do that!
I would say that I don't ascribe a prestigious reputation to Amex Centurion Bank because they don't offer any cards that would improve my rewards portfolio.

When I think of Amex as being Prestigious, I think of someone that is spending more than 250k a month because a lot of banks just don't offer CL's that high... If I'm not mistaken Chase is 100k, Bank of America is 250k, discover USE to be 50k, Cap1 is 25k.
and that person probably isn't using the card for rewards like most of us are! lol
