I've never had this issue, but I've had a couple issues with CLD's in the past with Chase and the EO has always been extremely friendly and helpful. They seem like they truly want to do everything they can to help you. Best advice: call them and be completely honest; don't try and make up what you think they want to hear. Tell them why you want the account open, and what you're willing to do. Maybe use it monthly for an auto pay utility bill or something.
Can't hurt to try.
Thanks, I hadn't thought about offering to autopay on it.
I did offer to lower another card by $4,500 if they took issue with my overall limits at Chase, but they insisted it was not due to my creditworthiness. (Also evidenced by them raising a different card by $15k that I don't really need.) And tried to sell me a different card.
I'm going to charge at least $1,000 on it and pay off so I have recent charges and payment on record. And to show them I will really use the card instead of telling them in the past and then forgetting to follow through. Does it matter if I pay the charges before the statement cuts? (zero staement balance vs having a balance then paying immediately)
It's just so odd that I get promo offers on the card so often and just in the last couple weeks, going from an account they want to "do our best to make sure you're satisfied" to one they don't want at all. I know promos are from a different dept, but it's still odd to me.
EDIT:
P.S. Chase also offered to transfer the CL from the card they don't want anymore to another Chase card if I want it, so I still don't understand why they won't just let me keep the card.

It's simple. You didn't use it for 10 years. Many lenders would have nuked it in a year or two.

I am quite surprised you made it this long.
Go to a Chase and talk to one of their banker and explain your situation. This happened to my mom and they were able to get it back open.
Sorry to sound like Negative Nancy, but Chase Bank, like most other card issuers, is a cold calculating pragmatic money generating machine. It has no feelings and doesn't deal with emotion. It does not care about you or nor your personal attachments and desires. They make sure they have the deck stacked in their favor at all times via your terms. Loathe them, tolerate them, or leave them. They really really don't care.
copper44,
Was this recent? They told me it is a new policy to not reissue once decided to close for inactivity.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. As stated, the history remains for 10 years, and presumably you have other cards in good standing so this probably will impact you very very little.
Yes, it sucks emotionally to have something taken away, but realistically, you haven't used the thing in years. If it was that important, it would have gotten use. Since it didn't, that indicates it was a useless card anyway, other than the emotional attachment. I wouldn't lose sleep over it.

About 6 months ago. Doesn't hurt to try and talk to someone face to face, what do you have to lose? But as others have stated, if you are not too concerned with the CL, I wouldn't blink an eye because it will continue to report for 10yrs. Good luck.
