I was just looking online for a gift for my daughter at victoria's secret and when I went to the checkout and signed in, it had a pop-up that I was pre-approved for 500.00. How do they know that without me giving any information? I googled real fast and saw it was a soft pull so I went ahead and accepted it to place my order and get a percentage off. Did that hard pull my credit when I accepted? I really did not want another hard pull right now while I am still waiting to see if Chase approved me or not. My application has been pending almost a week now. Did I screw up??
Yes, it is a hard pull. you should always, always, always assume new credit, in any form, will generate a hard pull. If you mean did you screw up your chase app, not really. They have likely already pulled what they will use for your decision. But you should stop applying for new credit. You are getting very close to getting yourself stuck in low limit hell. this is where people who have a large number of low limit cards find themselves unable to obtain better limits as their scores improve. You can search the archives here for what people have had to go through to get out of low limit hell. Do yourself a favor and stop applying for cards until your score +/or your income change significantly.

+1. You would benefit from holding off on additional apps for awhile- instead focus on raising your existing cl's over time.
Search the forums here. It is a soft pull. You will take a hit on your AAoA when the account opens however you will only get a SP. My partner has done this several times while checking out his was pre-approved. We checked his credit report no hard pulls ever just new accounts. They only ask for your dob and the last 4 of your ssn to complete the app. that is a sp
My bad, didn't realize it was a store only card. Wffnb cards with visa logos are hard pulls and I thought vs was a Visa card. Either way, op should still stop applying.
Honestly, I do not remember it being a hard pull for me when I app'd three years ago

Store cards like that's will be generous. Granted, i started with 200 and now have 900.00 but I also have not asked for anymore increases either
Yes the WFFNB Cards (Express, VS, etc.) are SP if offered during check out and WFFNB is FANTASTIC with auto CLI's over time, like clock work really, but you may need to wait 6-12 months before you start seeing it but then it becomes very regular!

I thnk I might ask for one. I never did before because I don't spend that much at one time but I'm surprised they haven't given me one considering all I spend there and NY and CO automatically
