Re: Help choosing my first CC?

Did it say they found those cards for you or not able to prequalify but you might be interested in these... If it recommends those, than I would app the Freedom. Chase has a 5/24 rule (5 new accounts within 24 months and they will auto-decline you) so they will be the ones you want to app first. I would apply for the Freedom first. It will get you decent rewards and probably a good starting limit.

Hello everyone,

I'd like some guidance on which credit card(s) to apply for.  I'm 30 years old, and have a Debit card which I use frequently. I use this to pay for gas, groceries, student loan bills, etc. However, I have never had a credit card. Ideally, I'd prefer a card with no annual fee, and that has a good cash back% without a low capping point. I have a decent amount of savings (~15k) and thus have started to travel more. In these instances, I've been carrying just my DB. Since I will be going overseas this summer I think now is a better time than any to start applying for a CC, not only to build my credit, but also for credit security when I am traveling. I'm not sure if I would benefit much with a card that gives back travel miles because I only travel 2-3x a year. Is that something else I should look into? And what should I look for in a second CC?

TL;DR - 30 yrs old. So many options - need help choosing 1st CC.

Thanks again!

OK so since you have an EX FICO 8 score of 648, I would suggest the Capital One Quicksilver... a good cash back card, with good balance transfer offers, easy SP CLI's, and no foreign transaction fees.

Then, since you're prequalified for Chase Freedom, you might want to grab that if you want a second cashback card, but that one does have foreign transaction fees.

It says "Choose one of your pre-qualified offers"  in big bold print above the cards.

I tried Amex but my yearly income is below 50k.

Also,  sorry but where do I click to find the APR?

Thanks.  I was also advised to go with Quicksilver since it seems I may get denied for Discover IT today.

Re: Help choosing my first CC?

If you have not applied for anything in a while I would apply for the Freedom. Just the Freedom. You can still be deined, but, its a good card and a great start if you can get it.

You will get denied for Discover at the rate they offered you. QS is not a bad card but the Freedom is much better. You can always app the QS next. Have you prequalified at Cap 1's site? You can prequal Cap 1 here:

Curious as to if the % I received on the discover was really that bad? What  % would have been acceptable?
