I was denied for Amex back in June, reason listed was internal scoring. I had something on teletrack which has since been removed. Utility is about 6%. Experian has 2 inquiries last 6 months, 4 in last year (3 come Sept 24). March 2013 I will have no inquiries in last year if I do not app. I think it would be a mistake to apply now since most of my accounts were open this year. When do you think I will have the best shot at being approved? I have no lates, collections, or charge-offs. Reports are clean. My main concerns are inquiries, new accounts, short history. Amex BCE and Discover more are the last on my wishlist. I also think the Cap 1 might be doing me more harm than good being there. What do you think? Thanks!

Get in with the Zync and app for the BCE a few months later. I had initially applied for the BCE back in January...declined, then the Zync in May. I was approved for the Zync then applied for the Gold and BCE in July. I was approved for both. I read the many threads on this forum regarding success with AMEX and the Zync.

You could apply for an AMEX Zync to get 2012 as your membership date. You need to wait at least 4-5 months they want 1 year experience on two or more bank cards (amex, disc, mc, visa). But if you get the Zync cazrd this year, and then App for BCE in february, you will get 7 months of free backdating goodness the card will be dated 2/2012 and will appear to be nearly a year old and you will then have 3 bank cards with 1 year of history, the backdating to this year seems to me like it would be worth $15.
The Cap1 will be there for the next 10 years even if you remove it. It is a toy limit and probably won't grow, it should not affect you utilization much removing 300 of 23,150 of available credit, so I would say can that one. I've seen people have issues with too many new accounts and you would not want that affecting your approval. Because it is their internal score, you really do not know what they are basing their decision on. Now that your NFCU and Freedom are reporting, which probably were not at the time you last app'd, you may have that in your favor. Have you considered the Zync maybe for an app? I only say this because there is something Amex internally is seeing that is preventing them from approving you. Getting a Zync and using it a bit may increase their internal score and possibly lead up to an approval for the BCE. Also, it will ensure any app's for the BCE in the future will only be a soft pull if denied and keep inquiries off you account. Also, if you are approved for the Zync, you could immediately (do it within minutes) try for the BCE again as it should only be one hard pull.
I know many say you do not need a charge card to get approved for the BCE/BCP, but in your case since your internal score is too low it could definitely benefit you. Of course, after you get your BCE, you could close the charge card.
Is getting the zync really necessary for optimal chances of being approved for a revolver or will waiting until Feb 2013 for just the BCE give me equal chance? I just really don't want to add a card I won't use that much..unless is absolutely necessary to get in the club..lol
Zync did NOT help me to get AMEX BCE. I once had it and still got denied due to high internal risk score.
What I recommend you to do is to apply HHonor/Gold Delta AMEX instead, and PC into BCE right after you get the card. That's how I got my BCE. The reason behind it is because AMEX co-branded card does not offer intro APR, which makes underwriting criteria easier compare to Blue series.

cap one is under 1 yr old. I wouldn't close it until at least 1 yr anniv. CCs like to see at least 2 TLs open for over a year.
Beneift of getting Zync this year is that all future Amex will be backdated to 2012. For ex, if you get BCE in July 2013, it will be backdated to July 2012. With your credit now, you probably wouldn't get approved for BCE, but might for Zync. Personally, I would wait until dec to app to let your new accts age a bit and have longer time since most recent acct was opened.
I wouldn't even try for BCE at that time, but it couldn't hurt since it would not be another HP. Your cap one is second oldest acct not counting finger hut. And its your oldest major cc. I wouldn't be In a hurry to close it at this point. If it we're me, I think I'd leave it open until I got BCE just because of the aGE of that card and newness of your others.

interesting strategy! Would that really work if someone's credit profile would not get a BCE approval? Doesn't Amex check a sp or something for a pc?

Okay, so Cap one stays open and that makes sense. I won't even think about anything AMEX until December (and only zync, not BCE). I was so upset at my denial in June. LOL, I was in tears with the rep saying 'so I am good enough for chase but not Amex.'.lol. I took it WAY too personal. I don't like rejection!!!

AMEX did not SP me when I did the PC. The moment I received my card I sent a secured message to AMEX, asking PC to BCE. AMEX responded shortly afterward and the entire process was done less than a day.
