We have approx $7K in yearly maintenance fees from Marriott Vacation Club. In the past we had the Chase Bonvoy $95 AF card with 6X points and about a year ago switched to the AMX BB credit card with the $300 CB on hotel purchases. The MVC annual fees easily covered this and the remainder $150 for the reward certificate was worthwhile. Now that Amex is increasing the fees to $650 and also changing to a $25 monthly food credit, it's just not worth it to us. We're planning on PC'ing the Amex BB to the older Amex Bonvoy when our 1 year is up with the BB. We always use the annual free night but typically stay at a lower end Marriott during our travel to MVCs.
Given this annual spend on MVC fees, we're conflicted on how to maximize this spend. Options we are considering are:
1. Charge to our AOD credit card - 3% CB
2. Charge to what will be our new Amex Bonvoy for 6X points
3. Get the PenFed Pathfinder which gives 4X travel reward points. This also has the advantage of a $100 Global Entry credit which would get used. We're unsure, however, if the timeshare fees would get properly coded for 4X rewards.
Other tidbits: We have over 800K MRP and lifetime Marriott Titanium Elite status, so adding to that doesn't provide as much value. Also, we travel mostly by car but do fly occasionally. Both FICO 800+.
