Help with Household

Hi everyone - I am finally pulling my head out of the sand and an extremely encouraged by what I have been reading pretty much all day and night for the past 2 days. My husband has two Household cards, both 90 days late, and it appears both are closed (according to TU report) and are sent to collections. Any suggestions on how I can proceed would be much appreciated.

Re: Help with Household

Okay, I am replying to myself here, but I've read more and think I know what to do - if anyone can verify this, thanks so much in advance. He is going to call and ask for recon to keep the accounts open, right? And then, we figure out what to do with the balance and figure out a payment plan. Later on, we try a GW letter? And, if they say no to keeping the accounts open, we do a PFD with the collections agency, keep things on time, clean up report and try again with new company later on. Hopefully this is correct!!

I'm not as wise as some of the other forum goers - but your plan seems solid and covers the major points! Good work!

Re: Help with Household

Unfortunately Household is not a prime lender.  You can always call and ask that the offer you some good will pulling the accounts back ftrom collections and you and hubby would be more than happy to make an arrangement.  You can also ask about reaging the account to remove late payment history.  Some of the better cardswill do this, not sure about Household.  What was his history like before he stopped paying?

Re: Help with Household

All of his payments have been on time since he got the card in August of 2003, which really sucks!

Well, as my mother used to say, 'Nothing beats a failure but a try.'

Re: Help with Household

Okay - here's the latest - just as an fyi, or if anyone has input - one account is not closed yet, and I've made arrangements. The other is in collections, but not reporting to the bureaus, and the best I can get is "settled, paid in full" on his report.

Are they refusing a PFD?

Re: Help with Household

They probably won't PFD but if al;; they are willing to give is the above, I would offer arrangements  on the full amount in exchange for pulling it back from the OCA or I would do settle than lessthan amount.

Re: Help with Household

Well, that's where I am confused . . . I asked if the CA was reporting to the bureaus, and the guy told me no, that the account wasn't sold yet. He seemed very eager to settle, but I can't afford to now, and it appears that the final outcome (settled on report)is the same. I didn't try a PFD because it's not reporting . . .
