Help with a Citi Card Application

Ok so seeing the new ads in magazines and the commercials on the tele, I was enticed into apping for the Citi Simplicity. I did so online and of course I got the we are processing your application. The letter arrived yesterday. I was denied. I was denied for only one reason. They pulled EQ. I had to many new inquiries. I know that I have a few--like 7--on that report. At the bottom is says action required for reconsideration.

Should I recon? Do I stand a chance? I really want this card. How is Citi with recons and how do I argue myself out of the inquiry mess?

Re: Help with a Citi Card Application

You already took the hard hit with the inquiry. I was denied on Nov 8  for "no revolving accounts with balances". The denial letter said that IF this were incorrect to mail a COMPLETE updated credit report along with the reference number. I typed out a letter stating thaAI generally PIF just before my statement cut therefore I would not have balances showing. I got a recon packet together and certified mailed it to the South Dakota address and bam !! I received an email on Nov 19 that stated "  Congradulations on your Citibank Platinum Select approval your credit limit is 1,000. It can definitely work, I would highly recommend mailing hardcopies via trtaditional mail, as my first recon was on the phone and denied. I would also inlude an explanation of why you have multiple inquiries in a short time. Best of luck, keep us updated

Re: Help with a Citi Card Application

I would def call back for recon, and explain the recent inq's, I was declined for Discover a long time ago due to, too many inq's, I explained they were from when I was "Rate Shopping" for my car loan, all my inq's were all on one day so it was an easy explanation for me. And was then approved for the Card.

I don't know your inq situation, but if you feel you can give Citi a good explanation for those inq's, I'd say call them.

I personally do not like Citi, I apped for one of their cards a while back when my EQ FICO was 777, perfect reports, one CC reporting a bal, 1% util and was not approved instantly because my current employer (that I put on my app) did not match what was on my EQ report, I called EQ, faxed over the required docs, and within one week my current job was listed on EQ, I called Citi back and explained that I have had my EQ report updated and it reflects my current employer, and asked if I could just fax over a current EQ report for reconsideration, and was told no, They were going to send me a 4506T form that I had to fill out and send back, I told them to jump off a bridge, I'll find another CCC to do business with!

Re: Help with a Citi Card Application

I will call for a recon on Monday. I just want the card for the intro interest rate. I may take advantage of the BT offer as well. Also I hear Citi is great with CLI. Just have to make up a good excuse to have multiple inquiries on my CR. I mean what can I say. I applied for some new credit cards and some got declined and some got approved. Not sure how compelling that sounds?

I know what you mean, that does not sound very compelling, but it's the truth, and I would tell them just that, you have already taken the hard, might as well try a recon, nothing more to lose really, unless they want to pull another report to see what your inq's (and other info) are on one of your other reports, then you'll need to decide if this card is worth two hard pulls.

good Luck, and keep us updated.
