Here we go.... (Chase CC App)

So I applied for a Chase Southwest Rewards card. I do a lot of travelling for my company almost all on Southwest & partner companies and did the comparison about where my value lies in returns and figured this was my best bet. Not carrying a balance, getting more in my reward flights than the cash back I could earn on other cards.

They pulled Experian. FICO 690. One false medical collection that was paid a while ago (working on deleting it-a former employer!), $20 in cc balances and perfect payment record-just short credit history & one student loan. No mortgage, pretty high income for an individual (I'm a senior analyst) DTI ratio is about as close to -0- as you can get.

What kinda shot do I have? Snowball in warm places?

Didn't Chase ask you the three questions of death?  One of them should have been about 'major baddies on your credit report'.  I'm thinking they might auto-deny based on that paid collection.

Please keep us posted and good luck!

Well I knew I took a risk trying to apply before that collection was wiped off but I figured if I was auto-denied that I might be able to win on appeal w/ a letter vacating the debt...

Darn. Yup, pretty sure it was an auto deny. Called their application status line that said "you will be notified in writing within 30 days". I'm guessing if I had been approved it would've been a much cheerier message.

Well-to the recon line I go!

If it helps I'm in Chase Purgatory at the moment, too.  I app'd for the Amazon Chase Visa and I got the 'give us two weeks' message.  I called their number daily for the first few days, but always got the same result from the automated message and the CSR --  it's still pending.  They were very gracious when I called and spoke to them about the status.  They told me to wait a few more days and call again.  Oh, I will Chase, I will.

Good luck!!

So you think there's still a chance? How long do I wait before calling? Point me to where I can find tips on successful recon?

Re: Here we go.... (Chase CC App)

You might want to just do a search on 'chase recon' to see what works.

The number I have is Amazon specific, so that one won't help you -- I would try calling the automated number and trying to get thru to a CSR.  IMO recon is always worth a try!  Smiley Wink

KYgirl, when I was pulling my credit out of the ditch (7 years post BK - it drops from your credit reports after 10), I apped for the ASPCA Visa.  Keep in mind that I had pristine credit after the BK.  NOTHING late, nada, nada, nada!  Did all I was suposed to do creditwise.  I get the "DECLINED, You Suck" letter from them so I called.  The female rep curtly told me, "I'm sorry but we don't extend credit to people with bad credit".

My BK was still showing and they punished me right up until the time it dropped off!  Now, I have 3 Chase cards with high limits.  Each time I call they bend over backwards to help me.  I had the Amazon Visa and asked to switch to the Borders.  So, now I don't want the Borders and asked if they'd transfer alll of that amount onto the APSCA so my credit limit would be higher on that one card.  Oh, yes!, they said.  We want you to have the card you want!  You didn't, at one time, want me to have any of your cards.Smiley Tongue

IT WORKED!!! I called up the number on the recon posting for someone else and talked to the rep, explained the one bad collection and verified my income and got my Southwest Card for $7k!!!
