Also are there any benefits that don't become active until you specifically request them? and how do you go about doing that?
Take a look at FlyerTalk's thread on what to do with a new Platinum. There are things that you nee to activate to use.
Not a whole lot of hidden stuff that I'm aware of. There are some non-Centurion lounges at different places that Platinum cardholders can access such as the Centurion Suite in Barclay Center and some lounges in malls, etc IIRC. I think there's something at Universal in Orlando as well. FT also has a thread on these.
They do advertise reserved seating but few seem to discuss it. We recently used the benefit to get tickets to the touring Wicked show. Not a massive discount but seats around ours were a little higher and sold out at the time we booked.

Which can also be used for a status match with at least Hertz, IIRC.
This a great thread started by OP. I just completed last night signing up all of the perks and benefits that comes with this Amex Platinum card through my online account. Enrolled and signed up the $200 airline credit, Hilton Gold, SPG Gold, TSA, and Global entry enrollment(paid $100), National car rental (upgraded to Emerald Status member after registering), and the Boingo wireless wifi. Great travel benefits that goes with this card
