Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

Hi everyone, I have a couple of quick questions, hope to get an answer since I could not find on here.

In the past, I’ve gotten the bonus of 80k on the Hilton Honors $95 AF. I then downgraded to the no AF right at the y ear.  A few months later, I was given another bonus of 80k by upgrading back to the $95 AF.

  1. Since I’ve gotten 2 SUBs already on the personal Hilton, would I be eligible for a SUB if I apply for the Business version? My wife already has the $450 AF Hilton and about 300k points, I figured I can give her another good boost to her account and bring it up to 400k since that’s all we use when traveling (Hilton).

I was thinking on getting the SPG Business for the 100k offer, $95 AF, BUT, we don’t really use Marriot, as a matter of fact, we don’t use Marriot….but 2-3 free nights would be nice.  As a household strategy, my wife collects hotel points (Hilton) and I collect miles (Delta).

  1. Should I get the SPG Business for the 100k offer but then transfer those points to Delta for about 50k skymiles? That will put me at around 195k. Is this a good choice?

Re: Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

You should be fine for the SUB on the biz version,  amex will let you know now before you go through with the app if your eligble or not for the SUB,    Do you live in a Delta dominated area?  100k marriot pts i can get a lot better value out of that then 50k delta points,   some people can get good value out of delta pts, but for all the routes i want and need to take,  50k delta pts is like 1 round trip compared to can take same thing for 25k AA pts or 11k-20k avios ,  im sitting on about 145k delta miles and best value ive found is if i get stuck on a layover where theres a delta lounge with the bar menu is to buy a few bottles of Dom for 12.5k miles each

Re: Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

I live in San Diego and we always fly Delta. Umm, now I need to decide if I want about 50k delta miles or 100k Hilton honors.

Update: sorry, I misread your email...sounds like I should go for the 100k Marriot or 100k Hilton honors. I’m going to check if if I can transfer Marriot pints to avíos and where Avíos flies to. Thanks!!

Re: Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

You can convert your Marriott Rewards Points into Avios at the following rates:

10,000 Rewards Points into 2,000 Avios - quote code 788
20,000 Rewards Points into 5,000 Avios - quote code 789
30,000 Rewards Points into 10,000 Avios - quote code 790
70,000 Rewards Points into 25,000 Avios - quote code 565
140,000 Rewards Points into 50,000 Avios - quote code 566

@Anonymous that is an old chart. As of last month, Marriott coverts 3:1, but you get a 5k bonus when you transfer 60k. So 60k would be 25k Avios, and 100k would be around 38k. (Or if you went with Hilton, you get could 10k Avios for your 100k Hilton.)

Re: Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

So my best option here is to get the Marriot and use the 100k for a 3 night stay maximum OR transfer to Avios right? Now I need to see where Avios flies to and see if that would work. Thanks K

avios will work with pretty much anywhere AA flies or any oneworld carrier,  and if your going to go that route if your in good standing with chase and if your spend is enough you would be better off getting the chase BA card, iberia or aer lengus none of them are 5/24 cards and its 50k pts for 3k spend another 25k at 10k spend and 25k more pts at 20k spend in a yr,  and amex is pretty easy to get so after  could then  get the spg card with the 100k and use for rooms

I'm in good standing with Chase, but my Ch7 falls off until June 2020.  Thanks for the advise though, didnt even know about those cards exsisting...except for BA which i was denied for last year due to Ch7.

Re: Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

Avios are pretty much worthless. If I were transferring Marriott miles to an airline mileage plan those would be my last choice.   100k Marriott points are best used at Marriott hotels. And if you complete the sign-up bonus you would have at least 110k Marriot points.

Re: Hilton Honors / SPG / Delta Option

So I decided to just go ahead and go for the Business Delta Gold @ 60K miles for $3k spent.  Got an instant approval for $10k.  I did get rid of my Charles Schwab Investor card first 3 days ago as I wasn't using it.

Didn't see the point of getting the SPG Business only for the 100k points as I will not be using the card afterwards.  As for the Business Hilton 100k offer, wife also suggested the Business Gold Delta since she's the one who collects Hilton points with her Hilton Aspire as daily driver anyways.

I will be over 200k Delta miles after this...thank you all for the replies.
