Hi! I want to apply for AMEX BCE, the only thing that stops me is doubt about what my grocery store is considered like.
I live in Massachusetts and there is a very popular grocery store chain called Market Basket. We buy over 90 % of our food there.
I called to AMEX and they told me that I need to ask Market Basket about their code. I asked Market Basket and have been told that they have Supermarket code.
But I have found the topic here on myfico that someone has only 1 % of reward instead of 3 % (or 6 % in case of BCP) in Market Basket. I sent the private message to the topic starter, but didn't receive the answer. Maybe someone lives in MA and have the AMEX BCE card and goes to Market Basket? I would appreciate the answer very much! Because the that is the only reason why I need that card.
I just checked my Amex statements. But... though I have been to the Somerville Market Basket a few times this year, looks like I used a non-Amex card, sorry!
Get the card OP. I only shop at Market Basket and I live in NH. Here is a pic from my Amex statement showing how it codes and yes I have received the cashback for my purchases. (Some info removed from pic to obscure exact geographic location and remove personal info).
TheCollector1, thank you! But did you see how much is your cash back with Market Basket purchases? not 1 %, but 3 %?

His image shows it’s coded as a grocery store so yes you would get either 3 or 6%
Thank you! I tried to figure out as I saw the messages that it was not enough to be at the grocery store, the store should be defined as a supermarket and only in that case there would be additional rewards.
But if everything works, that's fine! I have applied for the BCE and have been approved!
Thank you for your help!
