From what I've read here and elsewhere, Barclays is very conservative when it comes to lending. I would say that your story sounds fairly typical.
Like you said, Barclays doesn't like apping after you get their card. Be careful about apping too much. I don't think you're going to have a problem, but just in case. And, anyway, when it comes to rebuilding credit, sometimes less is more.

I've read the same thing too and I needed to see your post to remind me lol. I keep thinking I want to apply for both once I leave the garden but clearly not a good idea.
They are stingy when they don't know your history.

For reference, the wife's first Barclays approval was for $1,500 with a 690 TU FICO.
Her second card was $7,500 with a 717 TU FICO. The third resulted in closing the first card and chopping some CL from the second one.
