How Do You Receive Pre Approved Offers

Is there anyway you can put your name on a list or is this something CC companies just randomly do.

I think Capitol 1 and BofA has a web site to see if you have any pre-approval offers.

CCCs ask the CRA's for a list of poeple that meet a certian score/profile category.

In my case, I get offers from WaMu and AE since I had products of theirs in DMP and they want one last shot at me by putting a hard INQ on and denying me.

After reading your post, I checked on Capital One. I did this because I've been stuck with a $500 CL for 9 years on my Cap One card and I wanted to see if were pre-approved for a card with a higher limit.

BoA is a pre-approval, but Cap1 is pre-qualified. They just take the info you give them and say "you might qualify for this card" It looks like BoA actually looks at your credit reports to give you a pre-approval.

No.  But as soon as you accept an offer, yes.

i was told by one of my cu's that account activity would help generate pre-approvals. so i have set my direct deposit to dump a very modest deposit into 5 or 6 of my cu share accounts. we'll see if it works.

Are they actually a pre-approval or just a screening?  I know this was touched on earlier in this thread but I just want to make sure so that if I do accept one, it doesn't end up being a useless app that I get turned down for (possibly).  Thanks.

There are no true preapprovals, in the sense that if you apply it will be a guaranteed approval.  It's always possible that you will be TD even if you have a preapproval based on a soft pull.

BoA tends to go out of their way to honor their "preapprovals," though it might not be the limit they "preapproved" you for, lol.
