I only have one (Jetblue) dating back to 2005. I actually just applied for the Blue Everyday card today, because I'm going to ditch the Jetblue card (rewards don't warrant the $40 fee for me). Much to my surprise, I was given the '14 day' hold instead of being instantly approved. Are they getting stricter? My scores are all between 790-810 and I don't have a single late payment on my history - I thought I'd be instantly accepted.
I think the 14 day thing is different from the 7-10 day. I just got the 14 day on the Blue Cash Preferred and was approved 2 days later. I couldnt find much on the internet, but most of what I found was that 14 days = approved and 7-10 days = declined.

They may just want to verify your address. I got the 14 day notice during my last app. It was because on one app, I used my physical address, and the other app I used my PO Box.

The X day messages are not a kiss of death with Amex. Usually, they seem to appear when they want to confirm something or their system can't produce an answer in the 60 seconds they promise.
I have gotten the X day messages on CLIs, and when i used the online application status tool had an answer 5 minutes later.
Neither DW nor I have ever received a decline from them -- though they might have counter offered one DW's CLI requests.
Thanks Walk K, I will try calling AMEX with that cryptic # from my Experian CR and will let you know what I find.

If they tell you they can't do anything with that number, ask them to open an investigation. I was told by the CSR that the number was not any kind of Amex number, but I asked him to take it down and see if he could locate my account. I also sent a message through the secure message system. A couple days later, they had my card backdated. I hope it works out for you.
I have 3 right now but am closing one in January or February.
My last app wasn't instantly approved and I got the same message, however, they did end up approving it a few days later.
Starting Score: 648(2) Platinum & Zync.
