No.  When reviewing my transaction history, there is no line item stating "Fee" or similar.

Just my balance says $515.

You may get a $29 fee charged to your statement. btw, this is a per instance fee.

When I had those low limit cards, I declined to opt for over the limit thing.

Re: How Screwed Am I?

Vish, I was being really careful.  I have my CU person saying I am retentive about managing my credit now.

And I hear what you are saying. That is why I'm so angry with myself.  If all the managing and monitoring by me for me is now screwed up, I'm going to be really bummed.

and say what?  I'm a dork, trying really hard to manage my credit appropriately, am paying the balance so there won't be any balance for next statement?

I have never had to grovel (always paid my bills on time in full)...

Don't be so hard on yourself.  It's only Capital One.  If you paid the $515 back already just call to get some type of confirmation that it won't affect your credit step program.

Don't worry too much. Cap 1 is not the card of your lifetime. You will soon graduate to real CARDS.

All you may have lost here is 29$ fee and may be the credit steps program, nothing else.

If I was in your shoes, I will go back, look at the credit steps letter and see if it talks about over the limit thing (mine did), if yes, call customer care and see if they can take it as goodwill thing.

Re: How Screwed Am I?

The Capital One Credit Steps Guru is here.  Smiley Very Happy  This is how it goes...

Even Credit Steps is forgiving with Capital One.  Your letter shows 2 statement dates.  The first date is if you stay on course.  The second date is if you stray off course (late payment or overlimit) only one time and one item is allowed (can't be late and over limit during the steps).

Example:

Stay Good:  Get CLI after x-Statement

Mess up once:  Must wait a couple months for that second option  (x-statement) to prove yourself -- just don't mess up a second time or you'll be removed from the program.

Re: How Screwed Am I?

On Credit Karma, I always tell the newbies to think of Half of your CL as your new line and never go over it.  Engrave it into your mind that $250 out of $500 is your limit.  Just keep thinking it over and over and never say... "I have up to 500 to spend".  Condition yourself to think different about available credit.  Now, I sound like Dave Ramsey hahahaa!

Re: How Screwed Am I?

I called (thanks to b-door numbers) and the rep said that because I have not missed a payment, the $15 will not affect my steps program as long as I make the next few payments on time as well.

However, I AM being charged the $29 (note to self!!).

Oh well.  In a few months I will DUMP First Premier, open up my non-inquiry based CU card, and call it a day.

Thanks Jay for the affirmation!  (All of you, actually!)  Will this affect my CR at all?

Yes, use the envelop system.  Cut the card up into 4 pieces and use up to that limit  for each piece each week for a total of 4 weeks.  Ha!!

Re: How Screwed Am I?

They could have waived the $29.00 fee.  I guess they're hard up for revenue now.

Re: How Screwed Am I?

I am thinking once the statement posts, I will ask for the fee to be waived... as goodwill.

Can't hurt!
