Maybe this is a dumb question but here it goes anyway...
I recently helped my niece get a Sallie Mae Evolve credit card to take advantage of their 0% BT Apr offer. The account area is extremely barebones with not a lot of account options listed. Even when you click on "Help", just a toll free number pops up (where they keep you on hold forever). There's not even an FAQ or Knowledge Base.
And there's no Balance Transfer function listed anywhere!
Has anyone done a BT with them? If so, how?
Hopefully someone can help you with this. Dont really know of anyone on the forum with the new SM card that.I have seen although sure some exist.

Yeah, I don't see many people post about them at all. Honestly, if I didn't know Sallie Mae was already a major banking institution, I'd think this whole thing was amateurish. That menu on the right, when you click on the account holder name, is literally the only navigation options available. How cheap is that? And when you click on "Help", they just give you their customer service number (which is only open Monday through Friday, 9 hours each day). How is that even remotely acceptable in 2021?
(BTW, I have on dark mode if anyone is wondering why it's all black lol).
OP, shouldn't the customer service number be on the back of the credit card?
Unfortunately, no one has given you a helpful answer and I sure would like to know as well. I assume we will have to call, inconveniently for me, Mon - Fri during the day when I sleep.

Hey there!
There were a lot of red flags with this card/company, so we decided to eventually go with another bank for our BT needs. Good thing we didn't stick around long enough to experience a legitimate disaster, but I will list some of things that made us go elsewhere.
- You have to call in to BT into the card and their customer service is the type of hassle that no customer service should be for a credit card issuer in 2021. Limited hours, long wait times, they have to escalate routine issues to someone higher up (who takes days to get back to you), etc. It was waaaay too complicated just to INQUIRE about a routine BT. I could only imagine if we had something super urgent like theft/fraud/chargeback, etc. Generally when a company ADVERTISES the 0% apr BT offer, they make it as easy as possible for you to actually TRANSFER THE BALANCE lol.
- You have to install the mobile app to redeem your cashback/reward points (including the $200 on $1000 signup bonus). You can't do it through the website. And the mobile app is HORRIBLE. Constant black screens or frozen screens, constantly needing to be uninstalled and reinstalled, etc.
- Even though we didn't BT into the card, my niece did put some big spending on it for school. So when we found another card, we wanted to BT from the Sallie Mae card to the other card. Well, Sallie Mae wasn't in their (Chase) system for automatic BT processing. So they had to send out a check (one of those things I've read about but never actually experienced in decades since everything is connected/streamlined now). We used her card number as the account number (something I've done since forever with BTs). But Sallie Mae had a separate account number for her (different from the card number) that's listed on the statement that cut after the BT was initiated. So after 2 weeks of the BT not showing up in her Sallie Mae account (after Chase said they mailed the check), we called in to let Sallie Mae know about the account number issue, just to see if the check was possibly rejected, applied to the wrong account, etc. It was a constant case of phone tag where different people gave different answers and nobody really had any idea WTH was actually going on (whereas Chase gave me an update on their end about the status of the check within a few hours of sending a secure message). Then out of the blue, after we decided that we were going to ask Chase to cancel the check, the BT payment appeared in the Sallie Mae account (about a month later after the check was sent). Thank GOD it eventually went through as intended, but so unnecessarily complicated and a complete lack of clarity.
- We are STILL waiting for the cashback reward from the $200/$1000 signup bonus to post. Two statements have cut since we satisfied the spending requirement. My niece has to keep that damned app installed on her phone until it posts and she can redeem it lol. I wouldn't be surprised if there are some crazy hoops to jump through to redeem the cash, based on everything else we've witnessed.
- This is kinda minor in the grand scheme of things, but still telling about how amateurish things are over there IMO. My niece's Sallie Mae account would still be logged in on my computer for DAYS after she was over here (maybe even longer if I didn't specifically log her out when I witnessed it). That seems HIGHLY unsecure. Nowadays, a lot of banks/CCs automatically log you out within MINUTES of inactivity (you get those popup messages with the countdown asking if you still want to continue your session). I'm surprised ANY financial institution would overlook this in 2021.
So yeah...my verdict on this card/company is to BEWARE and look elsewhere if you can. If all you do is spend and pay it off every month, then maybe you won't have any issues. But if you ever run into any other issue that needs to be attended to, I'd hate for this to be the company you'd have to deal with to get it taken care of.
I will say one thing nice about the card. They have some cashback rewards structure where they take the top 2 spending categories and automatically give you 2% cashback instead of the standard 1.5%. Well, my niece only spent in 2 categories for her school (books and electronics), so she technically got 2% cashback on ALL her spending lol. It was enough to pay for a few streaming services for a while. You take the wins where you can lol.
Wow! Thank you for all that information.
Unfortunately, I've already applied and got approved for a few thousand for a BT, that I actually kind of need to do in order to avoid paying interest.
We, as a family are working out way out of CC debt, while simultaneously paying for 1 kid to play on 3 travel, competitive soccer teams, and 2 kids to be competitive cheer teams.
I'm very upset to hear that this is likely the experience that I am in for. All I want to do is transfer a balance to that card and pay it each month, so hopefully, 🤞, I can get it done.
Thank you for the thoughtful and detailed response.
@Rikkumz All of that sounds like a nightmare. Thank you for sharing your experience. They sure are marketing the card hard, I get an email or maybe two a week inviting me to apply. It sounds like they need to take some of that money and use it as actual support for the card. It's funny that out of all the bizarre things you listed, I was in complete disbelief of her account still being logged in days later. That is crazy!
@AnonymousYou will likely get better advice if you create your own post separate from this discussion. Good luck with everything. I for one know how expensive cheer can be, especially if it is a team that competes!

I applied for all of the BT transfer cards that I would resonably be accepted for and some that I didn't expect to be accepted for. I think I went 6 for 8. Only 4 of the 6 we're BT cards, the others were just for limit to lower utilization. Ironically, the only one that I am SURE that I got denied for was a Venmo Card that I was "Pre-approved" for. Really pissed me off as I didnt even want the card, just figured I'd take the limit as I was pre approved, not pre-qualified.
The other one that is still up in the air is a BOA card that said I was declined nearly immediately, but then they sent me a letter asking for a pay stub and an ssa 89 form, which I took as, at least, not a bad sign.
Any idea on that one? If I get it, I will be able to 100% transfer all of my balances. If not, I got close lol.
Thank you for your time and info!
Thanks for sharing your current situation. This place is filled with a lot of great contributors and information who can help you deal with whatever circumstance you're looking to overcome.
My experience with BOA has been the complete opposite of Sallie Mae. I got hit with some hardship during the pandemic (like a lot of people). And I was carrying over $30K in debt well into this year (only making minimum payments). I put that spending all on one card with a 0% apr offer but I applied for several other cards once that intro period was due to run out earlier this year. My goal was to get at least $30k in new CLs, hopefully more to help with individual and total utilization. My credit score was still decent since I had no late payments but I was expecting to take a hit on maximum CLs available to me since my utilization increased (especially on that one card). I got approved for 3 cards that helped me hit my goal, with the BOA Americard (18 mth 0% BT APR) having the highest limit. I called in to see if I could get an even higher limit based on the limits I already have on my credit report, and they actually bumped it up a good bit (with an additional hard pull). I've done 2 BTs into the card and everything has been smooth sailing so far.
I've read on several places that BOA, once you get in there, can give out great CLs and grow pretty big like Chase and Amex when you keep fostering that relationship. It's even better when you also have an account with another department of BOA (checking, investment, etc).
