Re: How accurate is the Amex Online Preapprover?

Have you tried getting one of their Opitma Oasis Card? That might be a good start. Also lot of people had luck with their Delta Card.

I never heard of the Oasis. Is that charge or credit?

I applied for their gold card with 45 lates that are 3.5 to 5 years old (some 90+).  My EX score was 712 at the time (yes they pull EX) and got instant approval.  I had a green card closed around '92 for non payment (though I did eventually pay them).  I'm currently battling them to even find my old account so they can backdate it.  You at least won't have that problem.

I'm thinking instead of taking a hit on Ex (are they Ex exclusively?) that I'll call a rep, first ask about the reported 28 year old account, then ask if I can re-apply and use that as the aged account.  Might save a hit and would also make sure I get the re-age.

The new account should show your 28-year old age.  They will not re-open an account closed that long ago if that's what you're thinking, nor will they open a new account for you without a hard pull.  There's just no getting around a hard pull on EX if you want that account, I'm afraid.

Yes, they are EX almost exclusively.  On the rare occasion where they don't pull EX, the alternative is usually TU, but again, that hardly ever happens.

Oasis is not a card, it's a program.  There are about 1,001 threads here discussing it.  Do a search for "Amex Oasis" for hours and hours of fun reading.
