What's the big deal about visa sig anyway?

The main thing for me is that it has buyer protection features. So for those who think I am too obsessed (yes, you, KDM) in getting a VS, this is my perspective: why would you not want to be covered by extended warranty or purchase security when it should already come with your card? My thinking is, if it's supposed to be free, then might as well get it instead of keeping the inferor version (platinum) IN CASE I need that coverage.

A spotty analogy I could think of is buying customized checks vs requesting free checks. Why would I be compelled to buy checks from banks that do not offer free checks when I already have banks that do offer free checkbooks? Of course, I want the free version instead of paying for it. In this case, Visa signature services would be free if I had the card. If I didn't have their services, then I would be paying out of my own pocket for extended warranty or product protection. Not sure if this made sense, but it's just my way of thinking.

Yes I understand why you want it, im just trying to tell you that apping for a card you otherwise dont need just because its visa sig is not necessary because the benefits are nothing earth shattering. The protections are nice yes, but does anyone actually use them? Its something you might use once a year if that. About how often does anyone bother to actually use extended warranty? My guess is almost never.

I wasnt trying to offend you or anything. But just wait until theres a card you actually want that happens to come in visa sig. Do not worry about getting it just to get it. Paying an AF vs paying for sig benefits out of pocket, IMO, the AF is still going to be the worse deal.

The benefits are nice to have, but not worth an app on their own, is basically my point.

I disagree, if you get a Visa sig with rewards, the rewards will more than pay for the AF. So why not go for the perks?

I did not mean to come off as defensive or offensive. Only wanted to get my point across. My main goal for this thread was to see which cards actually would actually warrant a Visa Sig. I will be applying anyways, so it's nice to know what you're going to get. But yes, I do agree, I am not going to apply just for a VS, but rather for the rewards benefits. But why not get both while you're at it?

It's always nice to hear your opinions, though!

What are you talking about? Venture has a promo right now that will give me $400 in travel rewards after I spend $3k in 3mths. And right now, my AF for the year is zero, and next year it will be $59. Even if I paid the AF this year, the $59 is far less than the $400. If people weren't receiving tremendous rewards from reward cards, they wouldn't be so popular.

You really sound ignorant when you make such a statement. I find it hard to believe that you've been on the boards as long as you have. Hell there's even a thread on here which documents the great rewards others are getting.

Re: How can I make sure I get a Visa Sig?

with the right amount of spend it CAN make up for the annual fee but that doesn't mean it's guaranteed. also, that's a BONUS given once. after your first year you need to spend $2,950 JUST to cover the annual fee. you can use a quicksilver for the same amount and be positive $44.25, not just break even as with the venture.
yeah if you have high spend it could make up for it, but even if you spend $10k a year on your venture if you spend $10k on the quicksilver you still are ahead on the quicksilver by $9. and, unless you use the venture for ALL expenditures then the AVERAGE person wouldn't benefit. so again, think before you speak. i proved you wrong twice now.

Re: How can I make sure I get a Visa Sig?

just because you own a visa signature with an AF doesn't mean the AF is AUTOMATICALLY worth it. so either you're GREATLY mistaken or the post you made came off differently than you intended. but i am confident my knowledge surpasses yours in that department regardless.
