How do I find out when this CC will fall off CR?

On my cr the only dates i see are:

date opened:  May 2000
date of last activity:  Mar. 2001
date closed:  Nov., 2001

This is the dreaded Capital One cc that is now $1750 with a reported cl of $200.  I'm just wondering how to find out when this is gonna fall off.  Is it from the date closed or some date sooner?  Who should I ask?  I'm hoping it's some date sooner and it is time for it to fall off. It is killing my util!!  If it is not gonna fall off soon (like in the next 6 months), I might go ahead and pay it just to get rid of it! UGHHH!!

Thanks!

It depends on the CB. It could possibly come off as early as Apr 2008, based on your dates shown above. But paying it won't get rid of it, it will still show up as a paid collection for the full 7-7.5 yrs unless you could do a PFD (pay for delete). I tried one of those with Capital One once and they would not work with me, so I had to ride it out until it fell off this past spring. But each CB was different in how long they kept it on my CR.

Thanks for  the reply.  I am attempting to check with the CRA but can't seem to find good phone numbers, go figure!

One other question about paying it off.  I really don't want to pay it off as I know it will still show negatively and I have heard that Capital One is a dead no on the PFD.  However, do you think it will help my util if I pay it off? Also, if I pay on it but not ALL of it, will it restart the whole 7 years?

I'm still a little unclear about the util part, but as far as I know, any payments at this point will have no effect on the 7 yrs. I would seek advice from more seasoned FICO experts than me before making a decision, but I paid for six months on an old Capital One CO and they continued to report it as delinquent every month with no reference to the payments EVER being made. After six months, I quit because of their refusal to report my payments being made and the CO just kept accumulating interest until a year later when it fell off of all reports. My payments did nothing to stop the clock from winding down. Remember, I am only speaking from personal experience and not expert knowledge of the FCRA laws.

Wow, Cap One is a real doozy, huh?  So even if I pay it all, you don't think they will report it?  If not then I could dispute it, right?  I'm thinking I'm probably not gonna mess around with it since it seems it will fall off early next year anyway. I don't want to aggravate them and have them sue me!

Thanks!

You might check out the SOL for suits in your state before stirring a sleeping giant. I live in Washington state and a credit card SOL suit is only 3 years. This of course does not stop them from reporting for 7 years.

The sol here is 3 years as well.  i think i will just wait and let this one fall off.  no sense paying it since i am not planning any major purchases before then and will hopefully have some pfds and gw letters accepted before then which should give me a little boost.

thanks!
