How do I get a decent CC for work?

Ok I'm a recent grad, 23 and just started a great new job. I need a credit card because my job includes a lot of traveling, and I don't have one. I applied for Capital One, because I didn't know any better and got approved for a card with a $300 limit in July. I figured it was because of my age and lack of credit history, so i thought if i just used the card and paid it each month i'll eventually get it raised. Well its still at $300 and I called to have it raised and was told no. I pay ontime each month, but apparently because i Util all $300 on a regular basis this works against me.

How do I apply for a card that can give me a decent credit line, because its getting really expensive using my savings for things like airfare and hotel, and then being reimbursed weeks later. Is there a way I can talk to the CC company and show them my paystubs to prove my ability to pay a decent credit limit???

Please help!

Do you know your scores? Also, how long have you had this card? These two answers would be helpful in pointing you in the right direction.

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

TU - 620
Eq - 605
Ex- 585

I've had the card since July 2007. I have student loans with Sallie Mae and Aes and i've had some late pays all in 2007. I didn't realize that late pays had an effect on your scores until early this year so I've really been on top of it.

When I ordered my reports this year there was some wrong info, a couple collections i had never heard of, so i disputed and got them removed. So now according to myFico my negatives are late pays, missed pays (which is the same thing but i guess they have to get you somehow), and length of credit history.

Amex Green?

Whats the credit score criteria needed? Is the information at creditcards.com accurate? My fear is applying and not being accepted, then having that on my reports.

actually 585 with lates probably won't cut it. amex pulls EX
If you had the 620 and no lates you could probably get it no problem.

go do the pre-approval at bank of america, that doesn't pull hard hit on your credit and see if they offer you anything, same with Householdbank.

Also, you may want to consider the visa signature/mastercard world cards.  They have a CL but allow you to exceed that credit limit with no penalty, provided you PIF the amount over your credit line every month.

If I'm not mistaken Signature cards start at when you have a credit line of atleast 5k.

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

This is ridiculous, my sister is still in school and just got a 5K limit card, with basically the same report as me. Minus the lates of course because she didn't have to start paying yet. So i'm eligible for 5K in college, yet only $300 when I graduate with a well paying job? What sense does that make?
