Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

It's because they care about good credit!

Also, I am led to believe your problem with getting a CLI is not as much you as it is the issuer.  Check out some of the other credit card issuers (bank of america has a preapproval).

You might have better success with a non-subprime issuer.

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

apply for hooters. they seem to like giving highest limit anyone has.

Unfortunatly once you start your credit with a low limit it's a long crawl to get to higher limits, especially if you are always maxed out on the low limit card and you have lates on other stuff.
I would start paying that credit card BEFORE the statement cuts so it reports $0 balance and get your util back under control.

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

Well i just paid off the card completely and i don't even use it anymore. The $300 is not worth the headache, I didn't close it, but i'm just not using it.

The thing is I would rather not even have to deal with this entire CC stuff, thats the reason I didn't get one in college, I saw what it did to some of my older family members and was warned against it. But now I'm realizing that paying $400-600 a week for a flight and hotel is too expensive to use against a regular bank account, even if you get reimbursed after the fact.

can the company not provide you with a corporate card?
I would be interested if the pre-approval from bank of america offered you anything?

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

Well yes they do offer a corporate card through Diner's Club, but through reading the application it looks like the same process as any other card. Apparently they still hold the right to reject and accept applications. I spoke to a rep and told her my score bracket and she said that she couldn't definitively tell me one way or another over the phone, I would have to apply.  I have done pretty well, by not having any inquiries on my report so I would prefer to not have any unnecessary ones. Also I just did the Bank of America thing and I got preapproved for the Platinum Plus Visa, a basic credit card to build credit. However the CLI is from $500 - $25,000. I did a live chat with a rep and she said that I would have to apply to see where I would fall under that.

a few apps arn't going to hurt you... I would apply for the bank of america, should be instant approval.
and DEF. the diners through work, i think it will help a little bit that your company is paying the bill to get you approved

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

Thanks I guess I should do the Bank of America one first.

Also through the myFico score simulator, it has my score improving to 650 range in one month by just paying off the $300 credit card amount. Does this sound right? It seems to be such a flimsy thing to swing my score 50 points. My question is, when the CC companies pull the report do they pull as of that day, or should i wait until Capital One reports? And how would I know the day that Capital One reports?

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

It'll make a huge difference b/c it's your only credit card and the amount you're utilizing is one of the most important things in their scoring method.

And yes if you want the score to be up you need to wait for Cap1 to report

Re: How do I get a decent CC for work?

I'm pre-screen opted out, so I have no personal experience on the issue, but I have read here that often the BoA preapproval site gives you a lower-end estimate on the credit line they will offer. Once you do the real app, many end up with higher-than-expected CLs.

The good news is that your credit report file doesn't sound too terribly bad, so if you get rejected (or too low of a CL) by BoA, then you'll still have good chances with some of the other major banks.

Good luck!

gday............not having read all the replies to your thread, I don't know if someone has suggested you try a credit union. That would be my first option.

Does your company give cash advances for business trips?. AMEX (Green) may be an option. They gave me a card when I was 18, and I had nothing at the time.
