How do I know what is "grocery"

I just got approved for a Sallie Mae card and I couldn't be happier.

Is there a tool out there that tells me what stores are marked as "grocery"? I now have to worry about categories as I used to just put everything on my quicksilver card.

I remember reading some Walmarts are grocery and some fred meyer stores weren't.

Or is it something where you buy gum everywhere wait for a statement and then start shopping?

They may have a list of places on the card website, like Amex does. Although, Amex doesn't have a complete list. I used my Amex at a store, then checked the category on my account while the purchase was pending to see if it qualified. Just depends on how your individual store codes itself

I heard the same but my TU was weak to where if I didn't get it I was going to app for the barclay rewards. Here is my post and my approval post is on the bottom 2nd page.

I'm not sure if Sallie Mae does or not. But like I said I kind of figured I'd buy gum or something small at the places and then see what they coded it as. Oooo Amex? I don't think they'd like the BK *sigh* maybe next year.

Is the BK still on your credit report? I was approved for the blue cash preferred with high 600 scores, but no BK. it gets you 6% on groceries

Oh gosh yes. It was last year, so I have another 6 (really 9) years before it's off. I may app for an AMEX just because I'm feeling good but the only reason I'd do it is to have one. And for Costco... But they're dropping AMEX soon so *shrugs*

Re: How do I know what is "grocery"

the best way to find out, is to go to the store and make a small purchase, wait for it to clear, in a few days Barclays Sallie Mae website will show the rewards you eaned, if its only a single point per dollar, its not a grocery...be sure and check your local stores, you may be surprised what is considered groceries, 2 of my local walmart's are considered grocery.
