How do you decline a card you apped for but didn't like the limit?

I had the itchy finger Sunday night and went for my 5th GE card, the AE Visa. I had a 670 TU fico and they approved me for the store card at a $200 limit.  Really?  My lowest limit is $500 and highest $2300.  Average is about $1500.

I called to close the card, but will this repot and lower my AAoA?  Is there a way to just not accept this?  The customer service rep told me I had to close it.

Unfortunately, you applied for the card and it will report.   That is why its better for you to hang out in the garden instead of applying for store cards.  You should carefully consider each app before you pull the trigger.

Its pretty much a done deal at this point.  I recommend just keeping it open and putting minimal spend on it... and also asking for CLI every four months.

I agree with webhopper, the account will report (since Its GE quickly)

I would consider calling Credit Solutions and see if they can help 1877 379 8173

Credit Solutions will not be able to remove the account from the credit file.  As this was a legitimate application for credit with permissible purpose, all they can do is close it, which would be the same action their traditional CS channel would do.  Why not keep it open as Webhopper mentioned above?  There is no harm in the TL reporting.  If you use it wisely over time, and your credit file improves, it will grow and convert to their Visa co-branded product.

I think the suggestion here was to call them about increasing the limit.

I see what you mean.  It's possible they may be able to give the OP more love/wiggle room.
