What do you want your credit profile to look like before a spree?

Wont the inquiries taken during a spree hurt your chances for approval?

Also to add to it, find out what each company pulls using credit boards and have your score high enough so that you don't get toy limits on the spree.  If you don't mind me asking, why an app spree?

I have 1 Barclay Carnival, 1 Cap 1 quicksilver and a target and home depot store card. All cards Ive had since 2009.

I want to get a real prime card preferably Amex BCE ,Southwest Visa and Sallie Mae. My scores are around 680 on all 3 bureaus and I had a chargeoff with amazon store card in jan 2014 so almost 1 year old.

I have no inquiries in 2014 on Experian and Transunion. My last inquiry was jun 2013 on those.

I also have auto loan and a signature loan on Equifax through my credit union opened up on July 2014.

Sometimes sprees aren't planned at all.

My last new CC was December 2013.  I gardened for the next year with no new accounts and inquiries until till last week 12/24 when I was at Nordstrom doing some last minute shopping.  I fell for the "spend $100 get a $20 note" and applied for the card... approved $2500.

I got home and got to thinking... "you applied last year for a Discover and were instantly denied... maybe try again?"  So I did... "please call us for verification."  Hey, it wasn't an instant denial!  So I called back on 12/26... approved $1500.

Hey... my Best Buy card has never had a CLI... so I requested it.  Approved from $1800 to $3500.

Hey, my CapOne card hasn't had a CLI in 6 months... so I requested it.  Approved from $2000 to $4000.

Hey, I just got a Discover.... maybe I should try an AmEx?  I came to MyFICO and every thread I read pretty much said Delta Gold was easiest AmEx to get.  So I applied... approved $5000.

Hey, you know that $2200 Barclay Apple card you got 16 months ago to get yourself in the door with them?  You've built a good history with them, maybe now is the time to apply for the Sallie Mae.  So I did... approved $4500.

Hey, you don't need the Apple card anymore.... call Barclay and move the CL over.  So I did... Sallie Mae went to $6700 and I closed Apple.

That's how my Dec 24th-26th app spree went... wasn't planned, just kinda happened.

6 for 6 with all instant approvals and no denials.  So yeah, gardening pays off.

Recent chargeoff is going to really hurt your chances. Have you paid it?

Agreed!  This may be a deal breaker.  Is it showing on all three reports??  Has it been paid??

I agree with Nixon.  Your score is fine to get prime since you dont have any inquiries but take care of the charge off before the spree and if possible have it removed.  Once that is done, I second an app spree for prime - the cards you really want.  Be very strategic when you decide to app...

Absolutely!

I applied for cards I wanted... Sallie Mae, Amex, Discover, Nordstrom.

I most definitely did not apply for Sallie Mae, Amex, Discover, Nordstrom, Chase whatever, BoA whatever, Amex whatever, Barclay whatever, Chase whatever #2, BoA whatever #2, Barclay whatever #2, Amex whatever #2... you get the point... LOL

I got the accounts I wanted while keeping my INQs to a minimum.  I'm gardening for 2015 just like I did in 2014.  Next spree in 11 months 22 days.  Smiley Happy

Seconded.. That is also a great way to be that confident you are going to get approved and get a decent limit....

Yes charge off is on all 3 reports since it was GEMB.

No it has not been paid. It was sent to Portfolio Recovery and I trapped them in a lie and on two violations and they deleted the collection from all 3 reports. The chargeoff has a zero balance with GEMB and just says sold to Portfolio Recovery scheduled to be removed jan 2020

Ive tried many many times to Goodwill this off but GEMB will not budge at all. most they did was remove a single 30 day late.

You know when to stop when you're getting denied for stuff like INQS or new accounts. Tread lightly.

Also go for really good cards if you're gonna do it, not junk toy limit cards and subprime garbage.

Actually if you hit this point you may have already screwed yourself. Not only do you have to worry about getting denied new cards, but a major spree can result in adverse action being taken against you on the cards you already have. If your seriously about building up your credit then you will have reasons for all the cards you are going for and will have thought out your strategy in advance (e.g., which lenders pull from which reports, what your app order will be, do you have your credit report showing an ideal credit util, did you get all the SP CLIs you could get in advance of the cycle, which signup offers are currently best, which cards may have higher signup offers in the future etc).
