I think it's worthwhile targeting the highest scores you can get. For one thing, having an 800+ FICO 8 score doesn't mean you'll have good scores in other models. In my profile there's typically a 130-point spread between my highest and lowest FICO scores in any given report.

Having a target like that can help people keep on the straight and narrow so they don't stray from their own credit goals on that we agree but once it starts becoming something else to put it politely I just tune them out at that point.
The last time I responded to one of these threads it got closed by the mods and I got my hands spanked.
So my answer to the OP's question on how to handle multiple cards is "Wisely."
i have 5 cards and they all have different purposes;
1. Discover it - use for 5% back on rotating categories (currently earning cash back on restaurants)
2. PNC Cash Rewards - use for 4% on gas, 3% on restaurants
3. Amazon Prime Visa - 5% back on Amazon and Whole Foods store purchases, also use for international traveling and the occasional dinner
4. Chase Freedom Unlimited - used for shopping and other purchases that dont fit a category
5. Discover it Gas and Food - originally used for 2% back on gas and restaurants but it got replaced by my PNC card. currently using this for my recurring bills, i'm thinking about converting it to the discover miles
i tried using 1 card for everything but my balance got too high and it started having a negative impact on my credit score. now i spread everything over multiple accounts, it makes it much easier to manage my budget and also helps keeps my credit intact
For me My goal is to use the cards that Benefits me the most, at least I try to. My Discover Chrome is very good on Gas purchases 2% back which is pretty cool, Amex Everyday Blue is really good for the Grocery,I need to use that more for Grocery, but for some reason WINCO Don't take Credit Cards yet Really!!!!! anyways the fun Part for me comes when it's time to pay the cc bill, I am a Hawkeye when it comes to that, I Thank God I don't miss Payments. I check my accounts everyday, Literally everyday no joking around, I have 7 CC and it's super fun to me to always check my accounts. I am very serious about my Credit. I wish I would have learned all the wisdom I am learning from this forum 10 years ago. YOU GUYS and GALS ROCK!!!!. but all in all you have to find what works for you because what works for someone may not work for you and then you will get yourself stuck in the Mud, Find your Happy
Place and embrace it and enjoy the ride
Also try to keep your Utilization Under at least 10%. the Lower the better, Mine is currently at 1% across all 7 cards, my method which I call the "Hawkeye" method works for me with no Stress.
