How does amex AU user work for already existing cardmembers?

I currently have an American Express card in my name as a primary account holder, but curious to how it works if I get added as an AU. Would it be better to be added as a AU today or would it be better to wait until January? If I wait until January 2015 and then get the AU card will it appear that I recieved the card in January 2014?

I know the following ways work for backdating, but I've never seen someone ask for this example (Currently a cardholder -----> Being added as an Au = ??????) :

AU ----> Primary = Backdating works

Closed past account -----> New Account = Backdating works

Currently a cardholder ----> New Card = Backdating works

That will not work. The ACM policy changed after 2011. ACM's no longer get backdated to the primary's MSD. But ymmv.

If I understand the process, let's say you have your Amex as primary for year 2000. Then you are added as an ACM. Your new card may say MSD 2000 and also online, but the report to the bureaus will say 2014.

If you open another Amex card this month as primary, then it will report as 08/2000 and if you wait until January 2015, it will report as 01/2000.

I think what he means is if his MSD is 2004. And then he gets added as an ACM to an account with an MSD of 1995, can he get backdated to 1995.

My understanding is that it goes by the policy of when you were added as an AU. Before 2011 he could match the Primary Holder's MSD. He's being added after 2011 so he would only get his MSD.

This is exactly what I meant so thanks for informing me of this. Guess I should go ahead and get added now instead of waiting around.
