Just wondering how in the world people have the patience to wait two years to apply for new credit, and why.   I have a hard time staying in the garden for 2 months.  lol

Kudos to those of you who can.  And I'm by no means saying I'm addicted to applying like I've seen posted on here before.   It just takes a lot more willpower than I have to wait that long between new cards.  But then again I'm still building so maybe that's the difference.

Credit is a Financial Tool and you should not take it as a hobby, as so many do over here.

Every account you impulsively app for stays with you on your report for 10 years. Keep that in mind before apping for the flavor of the week. It's not really a game (although some feel it is).

I would try focusing on something else finance related that is more proactive like building up your nest eggs, 401ks, Roths. etc.... That works for me.

I agree. I find that building my savings makes me feel more rewarded than CC rewards ever do.

I suspect many find maximizing both quite easy and natural.  I mean, how hard is it to (1) minimize expenses, and (2) save whatever amount leftover.  Then, maximize rebates for (1), and minimize taxes and maximize returns for (2).

As someone said, this ain't rocket science.

If you're a normal person its quite easy, unfortunately this site is full of people with an abnormal appettite for credit., that and its so easy to apply for credit nowadays. Before the Internet was big getting credit was a process that you would spend time thinking about, now you can just roll out of bed and app for 10 cards while making your morning cup of coffee.

Right. Sadly, the Internet makes some things too easy. Sometimes, one reads the site, gets an impulse or two or four, and takes 5 HPs all in one morning!

For me, having financial goals helps. I knew what cards I wanted and why I wanted them. Now I am done and concentrating on using the cards wisely, It takes time to manage new accounts and plan for spending. At least it does for me. It's fun to figure it all out. Smiley Happy

^This right here, 100%.  I haven't applied for a single thing in the last three years (well, except my mortgage).  Once I got all the cards I needed (a total of six), I am set.  I do not chase an extra .2% on reward points, nor do I chase sign up bonuses, it's not worth my time and effort, and potentially a worse interest rate when I need a loan and they see a bunch of inquiries.

I come here because I find personal finance and consumer banking interesting, and I like to help others as I needed and got along the way.  I have never been tempted to apply for a new credit card since my last new account in September 2012.

Re: How does anyone wait two years to app.

Not sure if I will ever go two years with out applying but...

Couple of weeks from 6 months without a new account or inquiry now.  Find the recent increase in fico points more

rewarding than another credit card.

After initial inquries fall off from rebuild, hope to never see more than 3 inquiries per cra again, max.

Prior to rebuild, might have gone 11 years without trying for any credit.  Did'nt know I was gardening Smiley Happy

I can only assume most here are normal, as opposed on either side of the parabolic extremes.  Advice should be geared towards "normal" people, not the extreme. For instance, to a type 2 diabetic, any carbs are harmful, but we shouldn't assume everyone is a diabetic when dispensing "general" dietary advice.
