How does consolidating chase cards works?

Hey everyone, I'm planning on cutting down the number of cards I have by the end of this year. Right now I have 7 cards and want to cut that down to about 3, ideally 2. I'm at the point now where I have all the cards that I want and/or need (besides the centurion😔) and some I don't need and aren't growing with me, or there's no possibility of them growing with me. Right now I'd much rather have a few very good rewards/all around good cards with high limits than multiple card (even though they are from premier banks). I currently have 3 chase cards. I have the CSP, Premier Marriott Rewards, and the Ritz. Sometime by the end of this year I'd like to cut down to one chase cards. I'll most likely app for the freedom, see what limit I get wait a few months, then start slowly canceling the cards and moving CL over to either the CSP or Ritz (whichever I decide to keep). My question is does chase simply move your credit over without input needed? Or would I have to fill out that form (I forgot the name but I've heard that most banks send these out when you CL starts to get higher).

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

It's really easy either send the a sm or call the EO which is what I had to do. Don't ask. Long story kinda. But basically they just move your CL some or all to another card. Simple as that.

Not sure how it works with "higher" CLs, but in my experience, you simply SM Chase and request them to consolidate x amount from card A to card B. They don't ask questions and do it instantly. If you plan to move over your entire CL from A to B and close A, they usually allow you to move the entire CL minus 500. Essentially, Chase will close the card with a 500 CL intact. Don't quote me on that but im speaking anecdotally. Hope this helps.

They will keep $500 on the card you plan to close unless there's no activity on the card within the last 30 days Smiley Happy In that case you can transfer the entire limit over. SM was the easiest method for me but calling is an option

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

From all my reading on the boards here, I thought this would be a simple process. I have a SW RR Premier card with a 5K limit and a SW RR Plus card with a 3K limit and I want to move my Plus limit and close out the card. I sent Chase an SM on 2/6 and received a message that my request had been received and I would get a response in 24 hours. Well on Sunday I still had not heard anything so I sent another SM. I received an apology and a message that my request had been sent to the correct department and that I would hear back within 7 days. Really? Does it take that long? Maybe I should just call but I've read so many posts about how easy this is to do with a SM that I thought I could avoid calling.

Edit: I've had no activity on the Plus card for over 30 days.

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

It can take up to 7 days. I know when I called the EO and they put in my request it took like 3 days. I only moved 1k from CSP to slate

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

YMMV I guess, but it only took 2 business days for my request to go through

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

I suppose it may depend on a few factors.  When I contacted them over a year ago to consolidate a couple CCs, it took no more than 5 minutes over the phone via their consolidations/lending department.

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

@heavenlyflower I think I'll go this route and not use the card for 30 days to get the full amount movedSmiley Happy

Re: How does consolidating chase cards works?

ritz and marriot reward points can be redem reciprocally. So, you should cancel either ritz or marriot and combine their CLI. Your CSP and freedom can work together to earn more UR points
