How easy is it to PC my Amex?

Hi,

I would like to PC my Amex SPG to the Simply Cash and am wondering what the process is like. I just paid my card down to $0 and I have had the card 6/mo.
Will I get an inquiry, POI request or any other hassles for this?

I'm sorry, but a co-brand card can only be PC'd to another card in the same brand-family; for example you can change a Delta Gold to a Delta Platinum, but not to a Hilton (or SPG) or proprietary card.

You also can't change a cash rewards card (BCP, BCE) to a MR-earning card, or vice versa.  You can move within the reward family, though, like BCP to BCE or EDP to ED (or the other way, of course).

I wish I had better news for you.  Smiley Sad

Re: How easy is it to PC my Amex?

Thanks for all the replies!

It's insane how much trouble this Amex has caused me. I missed my bonus by just a small amount, this is on me completely. However, when I applied for this card over the phone a rep told me the points never expire. I checked earlier and the points I had earned are gone.. I'm assuming you have to transfer the points to a partner or they do expire Jan 1 every year. I would close if this wasn't my highest limit card and I might need it. But that's assuming I actually am able to use it; not exaggerating I have been told Amex isn't accepted with at least 75 percent of stores locally that I have tried.

I want to ask if they will lower my APR but im afraid of a POI request there as well..
I will no doubt try to negotiate the AF. I assume I attempt that at 11/mo with the card?

There's no risk of a POI request if you ask about lowering your APR, so ask away.  Smiley Happy

As for the AF, I've always had my best luck negotiating once it's posted... it always seems the options are more limited beforehand (they can't credit or waive something that's not there yet).  That said, keep in mind that Amex isn't known for being flexible on AFs... I'm not saying it's not worth a try, but you should definitely manage your expectations accordingly.  Smiley Wink

Your points did not expire. They have been faithfully transferred into the Starwood Preferred Guest account that they set up for you when you opened the card.

You need to figure out what your Starwood account number is, go to the Starwood website, and get that account claimed   Whatever points you earned from the spend will be waiting there for you.

On the AMEX account, the SPG only shows you how many SPG points you earned from the card in this calendar year, that's why it looks like it went to zero.

Sorry to hear you missed the bonus, that's disappointing.

Re: How easy is it to PC my Amex?

If what is said above is true then I will be much happier with Amex! So do they never really expire from Starwood?

I am about to try the APR negotiating. I was denied a CLI last month with them because I was unaware of the 6/mo policy. I'm set to CLI at 6/mo in April, will my APR request affect me being able to CLI?

Requesting an APR reduction and requesting a CLI have been completely independent of each other in the past; if you want to make sure this is still true you can verify it with the CSR when you call/chat to see about your APR.  Smiley Wink

Starwood points do in fact expire. If you don't have activity in your Starwood Preferred Guest account for 12 months, the account is considered inactive and you would lose the existing points. Activity can include some swipes going through the AMEX SPG card, which will move points over to your Starwood account. That would keep the existing points alive. Of course one must eventually pay the annual fee to be able to do that.

Thus, it is imperative that you go to the Starwood website to activate your Starwood membership, to claim the points that are there.

As to an APR reduction, chat on line with your AMEX account to see about that. I was able to get mine reduced over a few months from the 19% rate to 10.49% now. I accepted the temporary 6.99% APR that AMEX offers on some revolvers, usually for a 12-month temporary reduction. I have not been able to get my Delta Gold/Platinum AMEX APR reduced.

I have a theory that with the SPG merger with Marriott, and the resulting foggy future for an AMEX SPG card, they may be a little more likely to reduce the SPG APR. But that's just from my limited experience.
