How forgivng is BOA?

Had a checking account with them that didn't go so well a few years back. Any chance they'd approve an app for the secured card? I checked their website to see if I could be pre-approved and that came up. $300 for a $500 limit.

I think the only thing you can do is try and see what happens!

Re: How forgivng is BOA?

BofA has a long memory, but they might let you in for a secured card.  Not sure how they look at checking accounts with issues compared with a CC chargeoff or something.

I had to charge off two BofA cards around early 2010, and eventually settled for about half of what was originally owed in 2013.  I tried for a secured card in early 2015 if I recall, was declined, but reconned and was approved.  Eventually, the card unsecured, and then some months after that I got it converted to a BBR, which is really nice.

So, BofA does not easily forgive and forget, but the secured card is a legitimate path to something much better down the road.

Re: How forgivng is BOA?

I burnt them in my BK in 2010 and I applied for their credit card back in 2014 - declined but then was offered the $99/500 secured card. Went for it but didn't see its growing with me so I cancelled it a year later. You can try to apply for their card first ... good luck.

Re: How forgivng is BOA?

Yeah same thing with me... burned them (significant amount) in my BK7 that was dc 01/2011. App'd for their cc in 2015 and got countered with the 99/500 card. Didn't grow as well so cancelled it after I got approved for their Cash Rewards card with a much better CL. 700+ EX fico seems to be the sweet spot when apping with them at least in my experience.

Re: How forgivng is BOA?

I burned them in a BK for $500, 2 yrs ago. I was able to get it removed from Experian, so I figured I may slide through their system and appd. No such luck for me. But they do graduate their secured cards to a regular card if you take care of it. So I share the same opinion as some of the other posters on here, they do have a long memory. Although it sounds like they cracked the door open to you, good luck.

Re: How forgivng is BOA?

I never did a BK so does that make it worse? They've just been sitting there and Credit Karma shows they're due to drop off next year. lol.

I guess it doesn't seem worth it if they have a long memory. It seems you have to get denied for an unsecured card and they counter offer with the 49/500. If I apply for the secured direct then it'll cost me $300 that may never unsecure.

Re: How forgivng is BOA?

I found them to be forgiving in my case.

I had problems in 2008 because of a serious illness with my DW and they were one of the lenders I had a C/O with.  I did make a settlement with them in 2012 or 2013.

I applied for a regular CC with them in 2014 and it was denied, but I did get a counter offer for the 99/500 Secured Card.  I happily accepted it and it was unsecured well before the 12 month mark, but no CLI.  About 6 months after it was unsecured, I did get an auto CLI, bringing it up to 2k now.

I would recommend taking the offer when it is extended.

Did your checking ever go into collections? Did they sell the debt or just charge it off?. Really depends
