No credit card required
Browse credit cards from a variety of issuers to see if there's a better card for you.
Had a checking account with them that didn't go so well a few years back. Any chance they'd approve an app for the secured card? I checked their website to see if I could be pre-approved and that came up. $300 for a $500 limit.
I think the only thing you can do is try and see what happens!
BofA has a long memory, but they might let you in for a secured card. Not sure how they look at checking accounts with issues compared with a CC chargeoff or something.
I had to charge off two BofA cards around early 2010, and eventually settled for about half of what was originally owed in 2013. I tried for a secured card in early 2015 if I recall, was declined, but reconned and was approved. Eventually, the card unsecured, and then some months after that I got it converted to a BBR, which is really nice.
So, BofA does not easily forgive and forget, but the secured card is a legitimate path to something much better down the road.
I never did a BK so does that make it worse? They've just been sitting there and Credit Karma shows they're due to drop off next year. lol.
I guess it doesn't seem worth it if they have a long memory. It seems you have to get denied for an unsecured card and they counter offer with the 49/500. If I apply for the secured direct then it'll cost me $300 that may never unsecure.
they are not forgiving
I found them to be forgiving in my case.
I had problems in 2008 because of a serious illness with my DW and they were one of the lenders I had a C/O with. I did make a settlement with them in 2012 or 2013.
I applied for a regular CC with them in 2014 and it was denied, but I did get a counter offer for the 99/500 Secured Card. I happily accepted it and it was unsecured well before the 12 month mark, but no CLI. About 6 months after it was unsecured, I did get an auto CLI, bringing it up to 2k now.
I would recommend taking the offer when it is extended.
