How is Chase with CLIs Lately?

Re: How is Chase with CLIs Lately?

I was approved for the Amazon Visa last August and received an increase at the 6th or 7th month, bringing my limit from 2,000 to 3,000. I used the card for everything; it was one of my first non-store cards, I always paid in full.  As another member mentioned, there customer service IMO is little to be desired.  My Marriott is now sitting in my sock draw and my Amazon Visa has a small BT on it, so that recently joined the Marriott. IMO Chase is a hard lender to figure out, they either love you or hate you.

Some receive auto love; some initiate a CLI just to get 500, others receive 0, and some have been successful.

Best strategy for Chase cards is to app for new cards, not to request CLI's. They are stingy with

auto CLI's and stingy & HP happy for customer requested CLI's. Chase appears to give you

what they think you need.

If you keep your reports in Chase's preferred manner - PIF and low or no new accounts or inquiries -

they can be very generous with CL on new cards for existing customers. They also will move that

CL around easily. So it doesn't make sense to request CLI - which they don't accomodate - and go

for a new app - for which they are easy and generous.

Once you get signature status on a Freedom ($5K CL), there isn't really any reason to expend effort

or a HP for a CLI request. Past the bonus categories, spending on a Freedom is uncompetitive.

Damn bada bing, with a FICO of 841 thats the highest i've seen in a while. Very impressive.

Re: How is Chase with CLIs Lately?

That's how Chase works.  They aren't big on CLIs but if you treat them right and build your profile, they will reward you.  I've had a Chase Freedom at $6k for a couple of years.  Used it heavily, no CLI.  Pulled the trigger on a CSP and got $25,600.

Starting Score: 504
July 2013 score:
EQ FICO 819, TU08 778, EX "806 lender pull 07/26/2013
Goal Score: All Scores 760+, Newest goal 800+
Take the myFICO Fitness Challenge

Current scores after adding $81K in CLs and 2 new cars since July 2013
EQ:809 TU 777 EX 790 Now it's just garden time!

June 2017 update: All scores over 820, just pure gardening now.

I would tend to disagree with the latter half of this comment. TRUE-If you're approved with a low $2K or less CL--it's now going anywhere....but I've noticed the people given higher starting lines i.e. $7K and above usually have no trouble with CLI's and are usually the ones that go on up to $22K CL's via CLI's with Chase and are approved for 4 or 5 more cards with the same high $7-$10K SL's. I have the same $1500 CL on my Freedom BTW and never expect it to go anywhere in my lifetime.

Meh. I never really buy the whole "love or hate" thing. It's all numbers and risk analysis. Sure, a lender may not be too fond of you if you constantly miss payments etc but for most customers who pay on time and generally do things "right", they don't love or hate you. It's a business. They don't have personal feelings towards you.

I think Chase is just simply strict with CLIs. It's just how they are. Nothing to do with loving or hating somebody. If you meet their criteria you can get a CLI (with a HP). If not, which it seems many people don't as the criteria is obviously pretty tight, you don't get growth. It's easiest to just accept that it's not that Chase likes/dislikes you...they just aren't big on growing credit limits.

Re: How is Chase with CLIs Lately?

My wife doubled her Chase card a couple months ago. She had an auto increase about a year prior. It will depend on your profile.

Re: How is Chase with CLIs Lately?

While not a CLI, a friend of mine with 'normal' credit and fairly/slightly above average income just got instantly approved for the Chase BA card for $30k. Made me think that maybe Chase is easing a little. Would be nice to fold a limit like that into a Freedom after you were done with the first year, maybe then they'd finally upgrade me to a Siggy!
