Well, I got my first credit card 9 years ago with Wells Fargo. Over the time, my limit got increased up to $8700. I never cared about having another credit card until I finally heard about Cash back rewards cards. In January, about 8.5 years after having only 1 credit card, I applied for a Capital One cash back card, and got instantly approved for $10,000...It's now at $13,000 less than a year after being opened. You asked about what makes us eligible- income, score, ect. I am not sure it's income because I make $34K a year, and just got approved at Nasa FCU for a $20K card. I really think it's up to what the lender's standards are- everyone looks at things differently. Amex gave me a $1200 limit, while 2 months later Nasa gives me a $20k limit.
Speaking of amex- I say go for that 3x CLI! I opened up my Amex in July and it's already increased to $4200 from $1200. So hopefully in 6 months that $4200 can now be $12,600.
Good luck getting your 5 digits!
8 months = 6 months to get the BCE and 61 days to ask for the 3x CLI
