After working with the EO on a few other things I asked them to get rid of the fee on it so I wouldn't have to bother closing it and they did. So my secured card has no fee, forevers.

Not when there's an AF for little to no benefit.
Not worth keeping a card that can't grow with you once you have established better cards. Secured cards serve a purpose but also are meant to be moved on from with exception to those that grow with you by unsecuring and offering rewards. OP keep it until you have established unsecured lines of credit and then get your money back and put it in a ROTH IRA start earning off that money. The positive tradeline will stay on your reports for 10 years from closing which by then you will have several of aged tradelines. I closed mine no effect on my score it has continued to rise since.

This is the only part I agree with. Had you informed the OP of this in the beginning rather than just saying yea "close the acct" we could have helped the OP sooner. That being said until you show me facts I will stay on the side of having the impact of an acct aged 10,15+ yrs pumping up my file being the way to go. Hell, OP you have two community members in front of you proving that YOU CAN GET YOU AF WAIVED ALLOWING YOU TO SOCK DRAWER THE CARD, thus, only charging a coffee every six months allowing the acct to report activity and STILL having a constant positive tradeline well beyond ten years.

You and I both know "quality" has absolutely ZERO IMPACT ON YOUR FICO SCORES. In the end that is exactly what we are all here for. The scores that allow us to progress and grow with our families through the real game called "LIFE".

No, no no. I have a $500 Badcock Furniture in my file and it hasn't held up any of my approvals NOT ONCE.
Ask yourself this; If and when your declined for credit for any reason: Is the reason: NOT ENOUGH HIGH LIMIT ACCOUNT EVER STATED?!?! Point blank, NO.
This brings me back to my original statement, THIS GAME IS ALL ABOUT BUILDING GROUPS AND THUS GROWING DEEP, DEEP, DEEP ROOTS WITH THOSE GROUPS.

I understand your theory. I really do, But I find it invalid.
