How long is Chase Bank's memory?!?

In 2009, in the aftermath of the recession, I burned Chase Bank by defaulting on a Washington Mutual credit card. The amount was less than $800, passed the SOL and dropped off my credit report. In 2020 I am going to want to apply for my first 5/24 Chase CC.

I am curious as to what kind of reception I am going to get. Does Chase Bank have a long internal memory? I am going to garden until 2020 and it would not be an unexpected disappointment if I get denied because of my irresponsibility ten years ago. I don't even know how to find out what I would owe them if I decided to pay the outstanding debt.

I do have two CA stalking my CR through soft pulls. I wonder if one of these CAs are looking to collect on trash debt sold to them by Chase.

Your FICO credit scores are not just numbers, it’s a skill.

Yup, I burned Wamu too back in the days.. Until now they bring it up when I speak to an analyst for a mere CLI.

Chase still hates me.

Their memory rivals a dolphin. Very very long.

If you still owe them, I would not bother trying—Chase has the memory of an elephant. LOL. They will never forgive me for settling with them. Smiley Wink

Re: How long is Chase Bank's memory?!?

I settled a card with Chase last year. Last week I was approved for a Freedom Unlimited with almost double the CL I had on the settled card.

Re: How long is Chase Bank's memory?!?

I burned Chase for a cool $13,212 on a Visa they inherited from WaMu in my 2014 BK. No way in heck am I going to get a Chase-branded card until at least the BK and the closed card fall off my reports in 2024; co-branded cards like the Amazon Prime are a possibility, but I'd have to jump through too many hoops, from what I hear, to be worth it. Even after 2024 I'm not sure Chase would be exactly welcoming. If only they had a card like Amex's Optima...

Their memory is VERY LONG!  They have no problem reminding me of Providian turn WaMu turn them.  I don't even bother asking them for anything anymore.

Re: How long is Chase Bank's memory?!?

OP, as mentioned by others, they tend to have a super long memory.

That being said, there have been success stories with folks being able to get back with Chase (typically via reconsideration), whether the previous debt was satisfied or not. Of course, the outcome will depend on a number of factors so your experience may vary.

Falling off the report won't prevent chase knowing from their internal systems!  (But knowing doesn't necessarily mean that they will deny you)
