But it's written over and over here --it's not just your score, it's what's on your reports as well.

 

I know this isn't your situation, but a 690 could be someone who had a 765 last week, and a new collection hit, and 75 points gone, just like that.

 

Very few lenders, if any, go by scores alone. If anything, they look harder at your reports.

 

Stop apping and let whatever new accounts that came from all those inqs get some good history reporting.

I have nothing more than based on what I've read, but it seems to me as if issuers use inquiries as an excuse to decline.

 

Just recently, I apped for an AmEx with 17 or 18 inquiries and was instantly approved.  Apped with Citi with the same amount, and was approved after a review.  Apped for Barclay's (well, being TU, I had 0), and was of course instantly approved.  I've also read where tons of people have been approved with anywhere from 10 - 30 inquiries.

 

So, I'm not sure if inquiries alone are that big of a deal.  I really don't think they care about inquiries, if other factors fit their criteria.

Yeah, I know my score is something that fluctuates, considering it is 690 as of yesterday, and it was 658 (according to Credit Karma, they offer a free monthly report and score if you have a Journey card) But my reports are flawless wen it comes to utilization and payments. I have never had a missed payment or a negative on my report. 

 

Since I believe in the whole "don't go down without a figh" I'm going to call on Monday and hopefully get this turned around.

To add to what Hauling said about scores.  Since it's very true.

 

A great way to look at it is like this.  A credit score is like a cover of a book. A book can be thick or thin, good or bad.

 

When anyone gets an offer, (mail or pre-selector website), it's because a computer looked at their SCORE, it did not however read the BOOK. And we all know the old saying 'You can't judge a book by it's cover"..........

 

Take any part (or two) of a credit report. Score, inq's Oldest account, AAoA, debt, lates ETC ETC  and it's only one chapter of a very big book. A credit analyst GLANCES at the cover, then reads the book, every bit of it, the books have the same chapters but it depends what those chapters contain.  They almost never approve something without looking at the whole book.   Every bit of it means something and together it tells the story, that's why it's called a report. A score on the cover only hints at what might be inside.

Like I said, I understand your credit score is something that fluctuates. But as I understand it payment history has the bigges impact on a person's fico, so thats what I am going to explain to them when I call. I am also going to explain to them that I am simply trying to replace by worthless Capital One cards.

Sorry if my above post may have seemed as it was addressed directly at you, it wasn't, it was just addressing the topic.   I should have mentioned the words in CAPS weren't meant to come across as yelling either (in case it did), only in caps to emphasize the "metaphor" I was using.

 

I'll be the first to admit, when my score goes up, I feel like I could apply for something I've had my eye on.  Then I remind myself even though it's a good sign, it's not my full report and I'm sort of gardening LOL  (again not addressed to you or anyone, just topic).

 

This is addressed to you (logan_720);  I think you're above idea is a good one, sometimes speaking with an actual human is more effective than letting numbers and info from a database alone decide an outcome without someone there actually speaking with the person applying. I also think Discover has some or the more informed, knowledgeable and effective CSRs,  if you haven't spoken with any of them before, you might be in for a pleasant surprise, not saying a for sure approval, but that they really seem to be doing their job and putting for the effort to take care of what you're calling about (I think it's probably that way when calling for a recon too). Smiley Happy

Oh I know Smiley Tongue. I have only had two experiences with recon, once with Chase, which was a complete nightmare, all they did was run my report even though they could see I had just applied the previous day, (as if something was going to change overnight! LOL) My second recon was with Barclay, and I can honestly say that they had the best customer service I have experienced so far. I just feel if I am able to talk to a real person, not a computer, then they can hear what my plans are. But thanks for the advice, if it weren't for this community, I wouldn't know a thing about credit! Smiley Happy
