How many is too many on an app spree?

Any thoughts? I've seen some apply for 6, some consider 2 an app spree. Any thoughts? And when people do these, are they doing all on the same day? At the exact same time on different browsers? Over the course of a week?
Capital One SavorOne: $3000 / Bank of America Unlimited Cash Rewards Visa Signature: $500 / Mission Lane: $2500 / Merrick: $2000 / CreditOne Amex: $850

1. Within 1-5 days... The banks will see the INQ's, most are trying to do all the applying before the new accounts report though and some of these banks (sync, have a habbit of reporting within days!).

2. How many is going to depend on the goal and the profile.

3. looking at your profile you could go either way... apply for 1 or 2 based on pre-approvals (check chase and if you have offers for freedom, CSP, Id take the CSP and a 2nd one co-branded like Marriott or united back to back)

So I say it could go either way for you because you might get great offers and nice big lines if your baddies are cleared up and just get them all at once or you could actually see better results getting 1 higher better limit card and letting it report and then do a bigger spree in another month or something with the higher limit reporting.

4. Grab discover first if you are interested in them though because they love smaller files or freshly rebuilding files before you open a bunch of other people.

5. Pre-approvals are your friend! chase you can get 2 back to back, cap1 you can get 2 back to back, amex you can get a charge card and credit card back to back.

So many good thoughts in Creditaddict's post. If a spree is right for you (and it is not right for everyone) then plan and read the boards. Know what cards you want, why you want them and what order you should apply. My successes were mostly dumb luck, but I got many of my cards when my credit scores were the highest and not many inquiries. After that, your choices are more limited. I only did it (app spree) because I was rebuilding and my old accounts were falling off. I had not used cards for most of seven years so I pretty much had to start from scratch. I wanted to build my portfolio and let the accounts age together.  Now that is done and I am refining my portfolio with cli's and combining of accounts.  Good luck to you.

Re: How many is too many on an app spree?

I have been getting offers from Barclays for the Barclaycard but that's it. I tried chase but to no avail. The only bads that I have on my reports are a bankruptcy chapter 7 that was discharged December of 2013. I have two 5 year old collections accounts on my TU, one paid one unpaid medical, both under $140. My ex and eq are totally clean besides the bk.

That changes EVERYTHING!

You can't get Chase, Citi, or Amex.

I would apply for Discover and Barclay.

Check for offers on capital one and close out your secured card and first premier as soon as you open 2 new cards to replace those.

Any store or gas card that would be useful for you? Amazon.com store card, walmart, chevron, lowes? those cards would approve and will grow very nicely!

There's no right or wrong answer to your question because what works for you may not work for me

A thick file may partake in a 4-7 apps w/o any repercussions/denials

A thin file may only be able to handle 1-3 cards before denials start for various reasons

Based on that an app spree is what your CR's/Profile can handle

How it's done:

Most app over the course of a day....apply for one and move on to the next

Others over the course of 2 days, a week and some just don't stop (app fever) Lol

Some use the different browser method when applying for more than 1 card from the same bank

However I think this is a waste of time and energy

Misconceptions:

If I open multiple browsers A won't see A2 HP on EX,EQ,TU

A HP is recorded faster than your brain can say ok click the next app

A HP is listed in a nanosecond maybe faster so you don't stand a chance of beating the computer

Upgrade your brain ram with a new chip Lol

Browser trick use to work well but now the CCC have updated their systems and IMHO it's a waste of time

Best successful app spree's contain some key elements

A) cards spread across all 3 CB's to not overload any 1 CB which can be difficult based on where you live sometimes

B) a planned course of action this includes what order and how any bonuses will be met

C) exit strategy in case it goes bad and knowing when to stop

D) what were your goals and do you have a plan B if something changes during the spree

E) did you do your research before any apps and did you do it for each card 3 times

F) garden time now ....garden garden garden

YMMV

I do all mine in a day and have done as many as 5 all approved

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Re: How many is too many on an app spree?

Yea I figured those 3 would be out. I'm def going for a lowes, as I am closing on my,house in 2 weeks and will need it. I wasn't planning on doing more store cards, though I'm starting to consider getting a Sam's club card, maybe Wal-Mart as well.

you actually will probably see great credit improvements for getting new credit cards with the house reporting.

And just to be clear (you probably already know this, but it's worth mentioning just in case, as it's THAT important), DO NOT app until after the house closes.

When I was closing on my house, I was specificially told by my mortgage agent not to apply, or even make any large credit purchases until and unless I cleared it with them.  The house needed new appliances (and I rented it from the sellers for about 20 days before the closing), so they OK'd the necessary appliances.

Within two hours after the closing, I was buying the rest of the appliances (washer and dryer).
