I have the Amazon store card, Target store card, and Lowe's store card. I don't see an issue with obtaining multiple store cards as long as they are businesses you believe will be around long term and that you can buy from occassionally throughout the year to keep active.

Again, those seem more practical types of cards and they aren't all from the same issuer. 2 are from synch and 1 is TD bank. I would not call that "lots of store cards" as we are talking about here where OP wants more than 3.

Amazon amd Target offers many practical and everyday items you would likely have plenty of organic spend on.

Also, are store cards your only credit products? How have you found your credit building to progress having only store cards?

For myself, VS and WS are very limited in scope. I can't buy bread and milk or toilet paper from either of them. There are only so much panties and cookware I can buy. If I was a gourmet chef or lingerie model, maybe that would be a different story and then that would seem much more reasonable to expect me to have lots of organic spend on those cards.

I am not saying that people cant get cards that they will likely use very little without spending more at those stores than they would if they did not have the cards, cuz people can do what they want. It just does not seem that store cards are a good foundation for building credit just because they seem "easier" to get.

People often get hung up on the SCT where they get no HP, but they still get a new TL, so I am unsure what the allure is. I am guilty as charged, as well.

I definitepy would have preferred 3 solid bank cards to (re)build my credit than 1 bank card and 2 store cards. I have seen my progress has been hindered where when I got onpy bank cards for my SO it seems like his (re)build has been much smoother. Of course there are many factors, but this is my overall observation.

Re: How many store cards can i get?

thanks again for all the feedback!

i have not signed up for any store cards yet because i have no need for them during the covid-19 era. however, i will contiue to read all the feedback i'm getting here and deicde.

to clarify, in my case, i will be spending at least 1,000 dollors a month on whatever store card i get. that's something that may make my case a bit different.

Re: How many store cards can i get?

Currently, I have nine store cards. That includes two Home Depot cards. When applying/approved I received $75 off for each Home Depot card immediately, no waiting until I had spent $1500, not waiting for a statement to post, not waiting for me to pay the $1500. The $1500 represents the $75 one would earn at 5%. Plus each time I received a using the card discount. Someone mentioned on the forums of receiving a $100 immediate dividend. Again, no waiting!

It's been the same for most of my store cards. OK, not FingerHut. That was my second card during my rebuilding. $25 off immediately for each tire for my Goodyear approval! It was well over $100 ($150?) For my JC Penny approval. Again, instant gratification. Used the card in store over the weekend. Using that card saved me over $75! Again, no waiting! Plus, I received an email the next day thanking me for using the card along with a $50 coupon if I spend $100 including sale items.

Yes, I have the "good" cards. A couple of Chase, an AmEx, USB, Discover, Barclay, Citi, two C1, of which one is bucketed, and a Comenity Sportsmans Visa. Yes, I have decent CL. One over $29k. Another over $22k. I rarely request a CLI.  Total CL are over $181k. Experian actually has me at over $191k. A lost card and it's replacement are both reporting.

Yes, I receive great coupons from Express. Yes, I receive decent points. Yes, the Buckle card was probably a mistake. Five years ago the SCT was in its full glory. Luckily, my son in law likes their clothing.

I believe the store cards have helped be rebuild and maintain my CS. I believe they have financially helped me. I never had to spend $1500 to save $75!
