How much does relationship with Amex help...

So I just got approved for the Plat card and using the same pull get declined for the Blue Cash Everyday...only reason for decline was "score was not high enough, it was 645)

My question...if I use the plat card and obviously PIF, how much of a bearing on other Amex products does my internal history with them have as far as getting approved for other cards with them ?

Thank you

Re: How much does relationship with Amex help...

It will help some but their charge cards are much easier to get than their revolvers. That score seems a little low for the BCP but who knows after 9-12 months you may be in a much better position for it

Re: How much does relationship with Amex help...

I know it's easier to get charge cards..

But I find it hilarious that the PLATINUM card is easier to acquire than the run of the mill Blue cash everyday card lol.

So much for Amex prestige...

Re: How much does relationship with Amex help...

Your relationship with Amex is only a small part of of the approval process. Demonstrating responsible use with a charge card is different than responsible use with a revolver, hence the different UW standards. You've written a few threads on this subject recently and the advice is still the same, your overall profile especially utilization is what's going to decide your approval.

12velectronics idk what's so hilarious. Amex hasn't been prestigious in a long time. Of course they'll approve someone for a $450 AF card that requires payment in full vs a $95 card that can have balances carried. The charger card has very little risk and fee is due up front so they made money before risking a loss.

Overall credit profile 1st. Relationship 2nd

Relationships typically come in handy when there is a manual recon with an analyst and you are on the borderline of approval/rejection. Otherwise, it's your credit profile that will do most of the heavy lifting.

Re: How much does relationship with Amex help...

There's no more relationships just like there's no more brand loyalty.. and that goes for BOTH sides.

Consumers will ditch a brand/company for anything slightly better elsewhere and companies are looking to make sure their balance sheet looks the best for the upcoming shareholder meeting.

FOR ME, I had my EX to 650 to get the BCP. I was in the same position and as soon as I got my EX to 650 I was approved for BCP with $5K SL, As everyone else said - it all depends on your profile.

You need 650 to get the BCP. I was in the same position and as soon as I got my EX to 650 I was approved for BCO with $5K SL

That isn't set in stone... there have been plenty of people on here who have scores higher than 650 who have been denied for the BCP.

On the other hand, there have been a few outliers who have reported getting a BCP/BCE with scores under 650... it's really YMMV with Amex depending on your overall profile.

Please be careful making statement like what is highlighted.  Just due to you getting the BCP with a 650, doesn't mean that is the case for everyone. Everyone credit profile is different and people have been approved with lower Exp. Fico's than that along with being declined with Experian Fico's in the 700+.  Each credit profile is different and score plays a very small role in their decision as a whole, it is just one small piece of the puzzle.
