Hey everyone,
Alright, so my most recent score from Experian was a 767 as of February 2nd, 2014. I was reading through my reports, and besides my first credit account, Chase Freedom, was another credit account that my mom authorized me under.
Because she authorized me, it boosted my average age of accounts to roughly 5 years and 4 months.
Well when I saw that I was authorized, what I did was I called the bank, and had myself unauthorized under the account. I also disputed the account with Experian and told them that I was no longer authorized under that account. They reviewed everything, and ended up deleting the account of my credit report.
Now that it was deleted, it dropped my average age of accounts from 5 years and 4 months to just 4 months. I'm wondering how much this will affect my score? I'm not to worried about the utilization because I tend to pay in full before the cut of dates so the statement reads a 0 balance, or I let a balance report of 10% utilization then pay in full as soon as I get the statement.
I know everyone's going to ask my why I deleted myself from the account and didn't piggy bank, but the reasoning behind it is that I didn't want ot ride off of someone else's credit habits. I wanted to see what I was made up of, what I could accomplish, not someone else's accomplishments.
Thanks everyone, enjoy your evening.
Don't cut off your nose to spite your face my father always taught me growing up. But anyway
You have 1 chase card of your own for $500?
why question what will happen once the account is removed and go on a bit of an app spree to replace the au account and then some?
You will soon find out. It is hard to predict the score change as this is very individual on each credit profile. What is done is done. If you only have 1 card I would let an amount of less than 10% report to show usage and if you have more than 1 account pay the others to 0 before statement cut and let report 0 balance. You should not report all 0 balance as Fico does not like that. Now just keep using your card and patience is the key ... as for the app spree I would wait for now and add some cards later on once your own card has aged a bit. Approval odds will be better with 1 year credit history.
Impossible for us to say. We can only refer you to this:
Your AAoA being that long as well as the added boost from a higher credit limit (as a resut of being added as an AU) prob has a lot to do with the EX score being 760s. A few sites (I've used CK before) have a credit score simulator where you can simulate different scenarios and see how those will affect your credit. Bear in mind that those are FAKO scores and do not correlate with FICO scores but it can satisfy your curiosity for now, lol.
Anyway, being added as an AU is not necessarily a bad thing and is a way that some of us actually got started on credit building. Kudos to you for wanting to take charge of your own credit. As one poster has said, patience is key. With a $500 CL and 4 months AAoA, it may be best to wait until it ages to about a year before applying for other cards so you don't rack up inquiries. Otherwise, a secured card is a good option, so you have 2 TLs reporting and start gardening! Good luck!
