Not a bad idea about applying for another card... however, in two months I will be applying for a 50K+ auto loan from NFCU. I'm concerned that opening another credit card with them will add a new account, which will reduce my AAoA and affect my credit score much more than the temporary hit from an additional HP. I'd rather be on the safe side and wait until after I get the auto loan before I open a new account. That's the main reason why I haven't taken advantage of the new CC offers I've been getting in the mail since my score started going up.
I think you can try CLI first then open another card if you dont get what you need.
I have not gotten many things right with NFCU, so I could be wrong.
Fellow $1Ker rooting for you!
DON'T WORK FOR CREDIT CARDS ... MAKE CREDIT CARDS WORK FOR YOU!
The typical max CLI for Navy is 3X your current limit although occasionally some people get significantly more than 3X. So I would suggest asking for $25K but don't be surprised if you're only increased to $3,000.
My girlfriend app'd for new card with $65K income and low 700s and was given $25K SL. When I app'd for CLI, they took me to the top, short by $200 and sent me a letter saying I was near exposure of $50K across my two cards. So, with that, shoot for $25K....

You guys have convinced me to ask for the 25K. I also think that if I don’t get a CLI (or it’s less than what I want), I’m going to apply for a second card. Question... will that be a second HP (on top of the one for the CLI request)?
If you apply for a second Navy card you should expect to get two hard pulls; one on Equifax FICO 9 for the CLI, and one on TransUnion FICO 9 for the second card app.
Hi,
New to the forums and fellow $1ker here. I need to know what happened please? Did you app for the CLI and second card or just CLI? If so, how much did they increase you by?
I just app'd and got approved for my $1k last Friday so haven't even gotten my card yet but was wondering if I should request cli at 91/3 or wait 6 months? I really don't want a 2nd card because my credit lifes goal for next year is a CSP or CSR and not trying to go over 5/24. I have one store card, one secured BOA, was recently added as an AU and now this NFCU. I'm not sure if Chase would look at the AU as a new account or not but if they do I'd be at 4/24, if not I'd be at 3.
Hi,
I ended up not applying for either the NFCU CLI or the second card and decided to wait. My initial plan was to wait a month after posting this thread (to improve my chances). But then in the interim, I got a CSP pre-approval, learned all about the CSP on this forum, and decided I wanted that card. Applied for it and got approved with a $13K SL. Then picked up a Delta Platinum Skymiles with a $1400 SL, a CLI to $3K on my Delta Gold Skymiles, and got a Visa with a $5K SL from my alma mater's credit union when I applied for a car loan and was approved--all within a day or two of the CSP approval. So honestly I decided that was more than enough HPs and credit increases for me and figured I needed to wait until later this year so as not to tempt having the CSP being taken away from me for "seeking too much credit." So now my plan is to let the dust settle and wait until later this year to apply for a CLI on the NFCU card and/or also apply for a second card later this year (depending on what my scores are) or do it early next year.
