How's navy with high utilization?.

My DW has $4400/5900 on her Flagship (she BT all her other debts onto it) it's the only card she uses, and her overall Utilization is 7%. It was opened on 06/2016 and has never requested a CLI

Re: How's navy with high utilization?.

I would say she can definitely request a CLI and depending on if her scores have gone up since she opened it she's likely to get approved for one.

Especially if it's a BT compared to if you just spent that much on the card it shows that you're managing your fianances.

I dont know, OP, 74.5% is really high to obtain another CC from NFCU, even though overall utilization is only 11%. I think her outcome would be better if she waited until the Flagship utilization was reduced to at least 29% before requesting a CLI, especially since it would be a HP unless you don't care about the inquiry. What are her FICO scores/inquiries if you don't mind providing them? Also, I found when I make huge monthly payments on my Platinum, I get auto CLIs.

CreditInspired - I though Navy was famous for their SP CLI's especially if you haven't requested one in 9 months...

Re: How's navy with high utilization?.

I'd have her request a CLI because she has had the card long enough for that.

As far as the util goes, I once carried a 30K BT (0 fee, 0% APR) on a 35K Flagship card for 12 months.  No issues at any time.

Re: How's navy with high utilization?.

Hi @Matt,
NFCU can never be guaranteed to NOT be a HP. Even after an AR, some get SP while others get HP, which happened to me in January after the AR. I called NFCU and asked, and I was told by two CSRs that they always do HPs. I told one of them that I read that after an AR, CLIs are SP. She had no knowledge of this occurring. And, I've noted numerous MyFICOers say "always assume a HP from NFCU." Of course, YMMV.

Re: How's navy with high utilization?.

CreditInspired - Nowhere did I "guarantee" that a SP would be done.

But instead I countered your statement, "especially since it would be a HP ".

Navy is well known for doing Soft Pull CreditLimt Increases, though it may not be the case 100% of the time it is the case the majority of the time (51% or more), especially when not requesting one for 9 months.

Re: How's navy with high utilization?.

When I first apped for my CashRewards, I immediately charged an amount that caused about 75% UTIL. It was the only reason I had gottten the card. I paid the balance off within, I'd say 4 months. Never had any issues. I have about 25% UTIL on it now due to a balance transfer offer, but i have since opening, received about 3 CLI's.
