So as not to alarm Amex, I got my Zync card earlier this month and have so far put $435 on the card, I was wondering should I keep it around the $500 dollar range for a few months and then increase it by a couple of hundred dollars gradually? I just want to make sure I fly under the radar with them and just enjoy using my card without any interruptions....
If you haven't done this yet, I would suggest picking the highest amt you think you would want to use the card for during a statement period, say 2000 just for eg. and plug that amt into the 'Check Spending Ability' link, if it comes back that it would be approved for that amt I'd feel free to use it up to that amt.
Over a 30 day period I checked spend ability on my amex charge 3 times 1500, 2500, 4000 all came back as 'would be approved', I was surprised by that since it is a new card and I've heard they often start at 500 or so and build up once they start to ID your purchase patterns...so rather than only charging 500 on the new card, I was able to charge much more--which they seem to like, they are known as a 'spedcentric' issuer afterall...guess they want you spend a lot on regular basis-- just not more than they want you to
Thanks score_building...I do like that 'Check Your Spending Ability' link. I'll go ahead a plug an amount in there to see where I'm standing right now. Do you check your spending ability every 30 days or was that just a one time thing you did? How long have you had your card?

In my opinion you worry too much. Use your card any way you want. Just pay your bill on time and you will be fine.
My new Amex Green card is entering it's 3rd statement period. I use it for everything and anybody who will accept it. I'm not worried about Amex one bit. However, if Amex
doesn't like how I spend my money or where, they could close it.
Quick Update: I plugged in $1500 and it came back that it would be approved...
Good point UpNUp

Sorry about the double posts. I was having problems posting.
When I first recieved my card I plugged in 3K. Denied. 2K approved. Second month I plugged in 5K. Approved. Next month I will try for 8K.
My husband has his eye on a 5K toy. I will definitely call in for approval.
I use AMEX pretty much anywhere...Walmart and McDonalds included. Don't have any issues...the only issue I had was in the beginning on the first month they suspended charging around $1000 and requested a payment to restore charging priviledges. I made the payment immediately and have never had an issue since. I've charged up to ~$5500 in a month without any issues, single biggest charges of about $2800.
I don't think you should go hog wild month one. And I would work up the spending level over a few months. While they may allow a 50% increase from month to month...this isn't without limit...after all it has to be reasonable you can pay it off each month and be within your application income level and in consideration to outstanding debts shown on your CR. When that gets out of whack...you might see a suspend on charge or even FR.

Oh believe me I don't plan on going crazy, I've actually already paid off what I've charged so far, my statement closing date is the 27th. I plugged in $1500 dollars using the 'Check Your Spending Ability' link because I'm going to be buying a laptop for my daugther who's starting college and she's going to be taking summer classes starting next month. My card is going to get alot of usage but it won't be in the $5000 range I do quite a bit of traveling for my job so that's where quite a bit of the usage will be happening..
