How to Control "The Itch"

Hey everyone!
I was wondering... How do you curb your itch to apply for really good cards?

I only ask this because I just hit 6months in my credit history; and WABAM!
I am getting offers out of nowhere.

I just signed off of my BoA, and it said " Chelsey, you're preselected!" And there they are.
The shiny unsecured Rewards card, with an online bonus of  $100 when you spend $500.
And the Travel Rewards card, with the 20,000 miles bonus.Smiley Happy

These are two cards that I've wanted to work up to so badly.
But I know that I can't app, I just can't.
I have to build up my history for my car loan that I need Smiley Mad

But oh boy, is the temptation so real right now!

So do anyone of you have any tips, to help this poor newbie restraining themselves very hard right now? Smiley Very Happy

Easy

Get a hobby

Go out more

Stay away from here

Mange what you have and don't sweat yourself

Before you app think...
Have you done your research of the CC?
Does it fit your spending?
Do you have a plan for the bonus w/o going into debt?
Can you afford the AF?
Do you know the cards benefits? Is it worth the HP?

Also, those BofA offers are usually not very accurate.

Re: How to Control "The Itch"

Try looking at car loan rates for good vs excellent credit.  It helps me.

Freeze your reports so you can't app.

Take up running, biking, yard work...

For those offers you do get itchy about, just think about how much better they'll be if you wait a bit.

Google "the marshmallow test"

Another thing that might help you control the urge to apply is read up on some AA stories on here, that's what made me stop applyingSmiley Happy

^^^ATM, this is it for me.

Pulling away from the allure of some cards can be very difficult. But I have to remind myself that in the greater scheme of life, getting **another** CC isn't actually that important. Take a break from the forums. Be happy with what you have and breathe some Smiley Tongue. Just try not to forget the lessons learned here. lol
