How long do you think I should wait to reapply for the Delta, they just declined me Monday? I know at least 30 days from decline, but I was thinking at least three months but more likely 6 months to give my BCE time to show them I use it responsibly. Three months is earliest only because DH has a trip to Las Vegas coming up at the end of June that I'd love for him to use a Delta card to book the flight and hotel to meet the spend bonus.
I'd wait at least 6 months before applying for another Amex revolver. In the meantime, actively use your BCE and you'll likely be approved for a Delta with a nice CL and respectable APR when you do apply.
If you've decided on Delta being the best fit, you can app for the 50K MR PRG (a charge card is easier for approval) offer to use for your DH's next trip. The PRG has first year fee wiaved, $100/yr Airline credit (choose Delta) and earns 3X on airfare. This is a quick way to amass about 60K MR points that may be transferred to Delta when there's a bonus transfer.
Also, if you haven't done so, you and DH should sign up for a skymiles account. Then, sign up for the skymiles dining challenge for a 3,000 bonus. Currently, the bonus for Delta is only 30K Miles, which isn't enough to justify an app, in my view. Wait for the 50K bonus, which will invariably pop-up. This should coincide somewhat with your 6 month wait in between revolvers.

I'm anxiously waiting for the Home Improvement stores cash back bonus with the Discover because we already get 10% off with my dad's military discount, so the extra 5% could make for a nice discount at Lowe's/Home Depot.
Did you get double cash back for the first year on your Discover? If so, that'll be an extra 5% at the time of purchase and ANOTHER 5% at the end of your first year aniversary.
If you have double cash back the first year, you'd be best putting any charges on your Discover that doesn't have bonus categories on your BCE (groceries, dept stores...I think).
Also remember to get aquainted with the AmEx offers and Discover Deals areas.

I just received my Discover It and AMEX BCE this week and I want to reap the rewards and use the cards in the best way possible. Hubby travels some for work and has a trip coming up this week, so I added him as AU on both accounts to help take advantage of these offers. His work actually started making him book his own airfare, so I had him put the purchase on the Discover because we hadn't got the AMEX in the mail yet. His work will reimburse us next week for the cost. I told him that when he's in Orlando next week, I want him to put all his reimbursable expenses on these cards so that we get usage and are able to pay them back off quickly. Is there anything else we should be doing? They are smaller limit cards of $1000 each, so I really want to get the best usage out of them to possibly help with a good CLI after the accounts have aged a bit. Any insight is greatly appreciated!
Which airline is this flight with? DH should sign up for all of the major airline frequent flyer programs, Delta, AA, United, consider also Southwest, JetBlue, even Alaska if that is somewhere in the trip list. Try to concentrate airline ticket purchases with one airline. Not only does it gather the miles in more useful lumps, but then he has the possibility of earning some level of frequent flyer status, depending on miles flown in a single calendar year.
If you go to the Citi website, what turns up for the Credit Card Prequalification under Travel? AAdvantage? ThankYou Premier?
How long have you had the BCE? Using that heavily, running it up near the limit, then paying down might result in an automatic CLI. No assurance it will, but AMEX likes to see usage (as do all card issuers).
Have you considered applying for the AMEX Green? There is no sign up bonus, but with the card you don't have a credit limit, it is a charge card. It earns MR points, which can be stored for later along with a PRG app. The PRG 50,000 point offer is intermittently available, sometimes hard to find, so you want to wait until that specific offer comes up, not take the 25,000 points offer. Only one points bonus per card in a lifetime, and all that.
Which hotels is DH staying at? There again, apply for all the major hotel loyalty programs: SPG, Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, even Wyndham and IHG if those properties are in the mix. At least gathering the points from the properties keeps them available for later use, possibly combining with a CC app bonus.
Rental cars? Does the employer offer something like Hertz gold status for free? Look into all the travel support options that might be available from the employer.
With the company reimbursement for these expenses, that is a good way to earn points in the program that makes the most sense, a primary airline and one or two hotels if he can narrow the usage down to those. With flights and stays, the points will add up quickly. As your credit profile improves, watch for the better sign up bonuses, don't app right away but act when the bonus gets a temporary boost.
Thank you all for the excellent advice! I truly appreciate it! His flight coming up is on American, and he does have their rewards program card, but I don't foresee an approval with Citi any time soon. I really want to take the kids to see my brother in Savannah, but the 13+ hour drive with an infant is not a pleasant experience so I would love to have the ability to use miles to get there! I did find great deals on flights if we were willing to drive 2.5 hours to Indy and fly with Allegiant. (Hubby says Allegiant is wracked with hidden charges and have had problems recently)
I think I will take the advice and go for the Amex Charge card in a couple months, the nice CSR told me to wait at least 30 days after any denial for another application or the system will automatically kick it back out. I will probably try to wait until May unless I see one of the cards with an awesome sign up bonus after my 30 days is up. I was thinking I wanted the Venture, but the more I see these bonuses with AMEX, I think they may have the edge on that coveted Venture. I never thought I had a chance with AMEX considering how messed up my credit was and that I still have baddies on my report, but they are all about to fall off before November of this year.
As far as hotels he is staying at, this week he's at the World Marriott and when he is in Vegas, it will either be the Venetian or the Palazzo. When we travel, we typically use Priceline or Hotels.com for finding our rooms
. I love traveling and I want to take our kids on trips I never got to do as a kid. There's a hope to take the kids to Disney in about 2-3 years, especially since college friends of mine live in Orlando now and I haven't seen them in 8+ years!
Does anyone happen to have an idea of what the Bonus category for Discover means when it says Amazon.com and More? Do they typically follow a similar schedule every year? Thank you all again for the great advice!!!

This is a fabulous idea! And, using Miles for the flights is ideal, since it'll free up your resources for what matters--enjoying Disneyworld!
Discover's 5% changes from year to year, but this year seems to have some nice categories. The "more" likely is reference to something in addition to Amazon. For instance, last year, Chase Freedom had "Amazon & diapers.com." Let's hope Discover's "more" is a more useful catagory than Freedom's last year. I'd be disappointed if it's, "earn 5% cashback at Amazon.com and Toiletpaper.com"

Sounds like a good plan. Keep up the good work!

Right, excellent progress! Well on your way.
Also, if DH can app, you can consider having him app for the Amex 35K SPG bonus, which should give you several free nights at Disneyworld's Dolphin (forgot the name of the other one) Starwood Disneyworld properties. Will make your hotel stay much more cost effective.
