How to build credit starting at none

My girlfriend currently doesnt have enough info to even generate a credit score for her. Im wondering how we can go about building her credit. If i put her as a user on my credit cards will that show up on her credit and help build? What cards are good for beginners?

Some had luck with Citi Forward... my friend who had no credit was declined for it.  He did get approved for a Best Buy Mastercard and then in 6 months when his score generated he was approved for Amex Zync Charge Card.

I've tried wells Fargo and cap1 with no luck so far I don't want to try to many and rack up inquiries

Re: How to build credit starting at none

yeah Cap1 has a pre-qual tool and if it doesn't offer you something, I would say never apply.

Try the pre-qual at Orchard.

If WF is where you bank, you could go secured card.

Add her as an AU

You can add her as an AU on your accounts if those accounts will report AU's, some do not.  If you list the cards, people can tell you if they report AU's or not.  Or she'd probably have to start with a secured card.  After 6 months of reporting she'll have a score.

Do a secured card for 6 months, then apply for Citi Forward or something that has good approval for low credit..

Re: How to build credit starting at none

I have Discover, Chase, Cap1, Homedepot. I have been rebuilding my credit with much thanks to the info on this board and I would like to do the same for her. I would really like to not have to start her with a first premier or credit one if I didn't have to. I hated those things and am so glad I have moved past those. I added her to my discover but it didn't ask for any info other than her name so I don't know how it would show up on her report. Let me know if you guys know any other cards that do report authorized users

Re: How to build credit starting at none

Chase reports AU's for my DH and myself.  Each had a card and listed the other as an AU.

Discover and Cap 1 also report AU's.
