Re: How to get to that elusive 5000$ card!!!! Can anyone help

Thanks.... well what do I do now? I tried the prequal site and it came up with nothing. Then they suggested all there cards basically.
Should I try directly or sit on the fence awhile to see if they offer something up later, now they know I'm interested. Thanks everyone for there comments.

I think you would definitely have a great shot at the PenFed card I recommended earlier. The minimum starting line is 5k. Your scores and AAoA are both better than mine when I applied. I say go for that one unless you dont want it. Mine didnt even have to go to underwriting. It was an instant computer approval.

You may want to wait a bit. These prequals are SP, so if your file has been improving / showing growth recently you may want to let your SP cycles catch up. If CapOne has not given you a definite prequal, I'd wait. When they give you a definite interest rate and not a wide range, that's a better indication you are good to go.

With CapOne, a lot of times the first limit you get is your limit. Forever. Thus it pays to wait till they give you some indication they want you as a customer.

Amex, on the other hand, may start you out with $2k or $1k, but then it is just up to your usage and the 3X CLI to grow it.

NRB your giving very old information. Cap One has been very generous with CLI's for over six months now. There are big changes going on over there.

Thorshammer. If you received a 5 k limit at chase you should have no issue with approval at capital one. It's up to you if you want to try for it but I think your chances would be very good seeing as your already a cardholder with them.

Re: How to get to that elusive 5000$ card!!!! Can anyone help

Thanks Jeff ... my highest limit with citi is only 3900 which I just received when I applied for Simplicity today and also a 3100 dollar Diamond Preferred that I've had for 3 years. I don't have any capital 1 cards and my 2 chase cards are at 2000cl.
The reason I'm wanting a higher cl card is theres a 3000 purchase I'm wanting to make and I'm not willing to make the purchase if its going to max out my card. So theres a method to my madness. And that would just be silly of me.

Thanks NRB.. your thoughts are kinda on the line with mine and seems the prudent thing to do. I'm just so new at this madness that I could be completely wrong in my assumption. Thats why I love you guys ,you can get me headed in the right direction. I rather wait on the large purchase that I want to make then go at it wrong. The whole no one has me on prequal thing is kinda weird. When my credit wasn't as good they were coming out of the woodwork to offer me something.

Sorry I thought I read quicksilver somewhere in this post which made me think you where a cap one customer.

A lot of us like to apply in sprees as it seems to help with approvals mostly because your AAOA won't take the hit until the new cards report which in most cases is 1-2 months after your approved. I'm not sure if it's common with them but Barclay was reporting my account the day after I was approved. I don't even have my card yet. That was a first for me. Cap One tends to take a month and Amex has averaged almost 2 months to show up for me.

I understand the cautiousness, but I believe you're over thinking this a bit. Lol
I didn't have any prequals at Chase and have a 7 year old card, recently purchased house and former car note thru them. Lol
Citi gave me 3k and I burned them 7 years ago. PenFed is a shoe in for you. Pay the $15 to join if not a veteran. And apply at will. They'll approved you. Just as Amex will and Capital One. Your scores are much better than mine! Discover is another that is fairly easy to get with a 5k limit.
