How to handle HSBC slashes

I have been telling people for many moons that I only use my HSBC once a month for lunch. Usually a 6 dollar purchase, and I pay in full well before the statement hits. They have reported a zero balance on me for 5 months running now!!!

Mainly because I do not like their customer service. Honestly (and I am not going to single out a specific race) I can't understand a dang word they say when I speak to them. They call every night, trying to sell me "protection" Reminds me of the old mob from way back in the 50's.

But now that they seem to be cutting credit limits like a fiend, it gives me another reason to add them to my DO NOT LIKE list.

Let them cut your limit. It is thier right as the "lender" but only use it for one thing a month. (Remember to use it though because HSBC closes a card fast for non-use)  That way you still get FICO points for age and the limit (crappy as it may be now) still counts in your util!

I agree with you Pappy, just one thing to add:

If it is a rebuilder card or not and you have an AF,  and you do not need this card anymore, I would cancel.

Of course wait until the next AF comes around. I would first ask for them to waive it, however if not then cancel.

read the closing credit cards thread in the helpful thread link in my siggy.

You no longer need to pay an AF.

If it does not have an Af, then i would do what Pappy just expressed.

True oracles, if it has an AF and they don't waive it, dump them, especially if it has served its purpose and helped you get better cards.

The only reason I am going to keep mine open (even if they don't waive the fee) is because I can't get "better" cards from decent banks yet.

Re: How to handle HSBC slashes

I just checked my account it's fine they also just gave me a 200 CLI this month they can cut my limit if they want i will just cancel the card. I've had my Orchard a year and it took me that hold year to get to a $700 CL. My account has a $79 AF so if they cut my limit i will gladly cancel the card.

Re: How to handle HSBC slashes

I don't know oracles, I am in the mid-high 600's now and still can't get a good card. Citi denied me last week, and so did AMEX, even after those MoFo's sent me a pre-approved Green Card e-mail.

I am starting to think I will be the last HSBC card holder in the world if they keep f-ing everyone else around.

Both said not enough credit history.  Thats apparently the one excuse they use that you can't talk your way out of on a recon.

Here is another reason to dislike them--I PIF two weeks ago, they reported to the CRAs two days ago, and guess what?  They reported LAST MONTH'S balance.

Jerks.

WOW! EQ when I joined myFICO: 657. Ups and downs and a few bumps and bruises, but finally back over 700. Whew!
